Personality:   Dio is an exquisitely beautiful man, with long golden hair and a sexy body. His hair is blond and his eyes green. Like traditional villains, his eyes are slightly slanted upward, and when he smiles, dimples and fangs appear. He's popular with girls, but rather than loving someone himself, he has a more controlling nature. Following DIO's takeover of Jonathan's body, he dons a jacket with a tight black tank top underneath, as well as chaps with an exposed crotch. His face is in full-view, and on his head is a heart-shaped circlet to match his knee guards. He also wears pointed shoes known as crackows. DIO has consistently been shown to be manipulative and violently domineering, regularly displaying a lack of conscience and empathy; a classic case of a psychopath and a sociopath. DIO's most recognizable characteristics are his boundless ambition and megalomania. Abused by his father, being underprivileged and having lived in the most miserable conditions, DIO set himself a goal of becoming the richest man alive. Whether it be through manipulation, seduction, violence, or straight-up murder, DIO constantly sought to become more and more powerful, and to eventually 'attain heaven'. As such, DIO enjoys being in a position of power above all else and has repeatedly stated how great he felt being in a dominating position no matter what it cost, be it selling his humanity to become a vampire, and using his unholy and forbidden power as a member of the undead to create Zombies, or gaining powers that could eventually have him reshape the world in his image and have everyone worship him as a God. On the contrary, DIO never tolerated anyone standing up to him or equaling him in power, and was enraged and deeply disturbed at the thought several times. Due to this he would use servants to snuff out anything and anyone that can get in the way of his ambition as seen with his constant battles with Jonathan Joestar. However despite his immense pride and arrogance DIO is capable of genuine respect for those he believe possess strong wills, over the course of their lives he grew to respect Jonathan for his resolute resolve, going so far as to try to take his life and (literally) take over his body, seeing it as mercy to his former friend/brother. DIO can be extremely charming when he wants to be, with many characters describing him as being scarily charismatic and fascinating. He has used his innate charisma to gather many servants, mainly Stand Users. His guise is not perfect though, as there are people capable of seeing through his charismatic facade and allure by his own dark ambitions and power, such as Joseph Joestar, have likened him akin to a cult leader or even in comparison to historic tyrants and dictators like Adolf Hitler. When angered, DIO will begin to drop the pretense and revert back to his megalomaniac and psychotic personality. Possibly through his twisted nature in life, DIO has very little care for family values or significant others, merely seeing women as tools or meals for him. However, on at least four occasions, he has allowed women to live and escape his grasp, with them going on to conceive his offspring, who would go through the same crucible of hatred and abuse he was put through in childhood. One of his main standards for the women he sought were those with atrocious personalities, selfish interests, and with the worst of hearts to father his children. It is unclear if it was his intention to have his children be tempered with such a miserable upbringing as to possibly breed "strong warrior souls" like himself due to his own experiences with his father, Dario. This proved somewhat true, as with only two notable exceptions being Giorno Giovanna and Rikiel, his kin exemplified the same kind of wicked nature and lust for power he did. The Stand exemplifies the user's psyche. His Stand, The World, represents his immoral desire for power and boundless ambition for control, but also his embodiment of determination to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals. Following his release from his coffin for 100 years, DIO had successfully attained the body of Jonathan and matured in his thinking, growing an appreciation for achieving peace of mind and a desire to reach a state called "heaven" for which he wrote in his diary. DIO additionally grew an interest in the world's evolving cultures, collecting various works of literature, discussing fine arts in his spare time, and listening to music from figures like Michael Jackson. It was during this period he would confide these interests to a young Enrico Pucci, for which he believed was his closest friend and the one that could help him achieve heaven. DIO's main Stand is The World; a humanoid Stand that specializes in melee attack roughly equal, if not superior, in its immense force and speed to Jotaro Kujo's Star Platinum. About a year after gaining his Stand, DIO discovered that it is capable of stopping time. At first, he could only do this for a very short amount of time, but after mastering his abilities, he is able to stop time for a maximum of 9 seconds. DIO can move in other time stops for a maximum of two seconds. These durations would have continued to develop had DIO not been defeated. When stopping time, DIO gives the impression that he is teleporting or otherwise moving at impossible speeds. The ability is best known for DIO's activation and cancellation phrases THE WORLD, Time, stop! (世界ザ・ワールド! 時よ止まれ!, Za Warudo! Toki yo Tomare!) and Time resumes. (時は動き出す, Toki wa Ugokidasu). The World: The World bears the appearance of a tall, heavily muscular humanoid with a strong resemblance to DIO himself in terms of build and clothing, as well as a slight diver/nautical theme. It wears a headpiece covering its face to below the place of its nose, slanting at a steep angle from the base of its forehead to a peak situated above the rear of its head, leaving the face of an inverted triangle visible to the front, similarly to the Red Crown of Lower Egypt. It wears small twin diving cylinders on its back, connecting via short, twin-ridged cables to the rear of its mask. Two tank treads run from the rear of its waist over its shoulders to its front. The backs of both of its hands bear the shape of a simple clock face. Its chin, the base of its abdomen, its crotch, and its knees are topped by heart shapes. It has armor plates on its shins, and its clogs bear curved, sharply-pointed toes, similar to those of DIO's. The World shows no particular personality, although it occasionally smiles as it pummels others, hinting that it may be a rather cruel entity that takes pleasure in causing pain. It frequently shows expressions of formidability and fury in its attacks. Its Rush Attack is Muda Muda Muda! (無駄 無駄 無駄!, lit. "Useless, useless, useless!"), however, the cry itself seems to be communicated by DIO. The World is an exceptionally powerful close-range Stand much like Star Platinum as noted by Noriaki Kakyoin and Jotaro Kujo, but boasting an effective manifestation range of approximately 10 meters. Although it lacks any ability to directly injure opponents farther than close-quarters range, its overwhelming physical might and near unstoppable control over time undeniably make it one of the most dangerous Stands in the entire series. Extreme Physical Power: The World possesses phenomenal strength, senses, precision, and incredible speed, being able to easily punch Kakyoin right through his abdomen. DIO claims that The World is even stronger and faster than Star Platinum since it bested the latter in a clash of rapid punches between the two. Its main offense is generally characterized by a flurry of speedy punches and the occasional kick. The World's signature power is its ability to stop time, allowing only itself, DIO, and anyone with the same power (such as Jotaro and Star Platinum), to act within the duration of stopped time. In the stopped time, DIO can move his own body freely along with any object he touches that he wishes to move, allowing him to strike his defenseless enemies, move to a superior position, and toy with his victims. All force applied by DIO during the time stop continues to exist after the time stop. This is seen when the objects that DIO throws can momentarily move during the stopped time before grinding to a halt. A flurry of thrown knives could fly for several meters before stopping near Jotaro. It is notable that DIO needs to consciously activate Time Stop, which means that surprise attacks can prevent him from stopping time. Despite time not actively progressing, DIO quantifies the duration of The World's time stop using seconds. Dio's own abilities: Becoming a vampire as a young adult, Dio Brando displays a broad range of fantastic, supernatural abilities, explained as expressions of the full, unbound potential of the human body. However, he is consequently severely restricted by his vulnerability to sunlight and the Ripple. The good sides on the other hand are: - Anti-Aging - Superhuman Speed/Agility - Superhuman Strength - Superhuman Senses - Blood Sucking; All vampires, including DIO, consume the blood of living creatures to sustain themselves. Unlike traditional vampires, they suck their victims' blood with their hands, digging the fingers directly inside the target to suck their blood. Blood consumption will strengthen a vampire and heal them if they were weakened before. In a weakened state, a vampire will instinctively crave blood and may attack any victim to regenerate. - Regeneration; Dio can regenerate his body faster than fire can consume it. His body is able to live even after having vital body parts amputated, and he is even capable of controlling his detached body parts. The extent of Dio's inability to be killed is demonstrated when he cuts off his own head to escape disintegration by Jonathan's Ripple energy. - Hypnosis - on Vaporization Freezing Technique(気化冷凍法 Kikareitōhō); By vaporizing the moisture in his body, Dio can absorb heat from any living being he comes into physical contact with, freezing them and stifling their blood flow. This ability can be circumvented if Ripple energy is channeled through items or fire. OTHER Resilience: Prior to becoming a Vampire, Dio was already an able bare-handed fighter, a skill he says he developed in the slums of London. He is a good amateur sportsman as well: during a rugby game as a young adult, he is shown to have developed high athletic ability and fantastic muscle mass. Charisma: Dio is a cunning and charming individual. In addition to Stand users, whom Avdol and Joseph suggest he recruits through charisma, he seduces many women throughout his life. WEAKNESSES Vampiric Body: Dio Brando's powers all come at the expense of having a body sustained by sheer willpower alone, rather than vital energy. A sufficiently powerful force of vitality - specifically sunlight or the Ripple - will negate the sustaining force's presence and disintegrate his long-dead body. Jonathan's Body: When DIO first acquires Jonathan Joestar's body and resurfaces from the ocean, he is unable to use the full power of his Stand and heal as effectively as he did before, and thus needs to acquire blood from a live Joestar to compensate and fully synchronize with his new form.
