Before you could fully open your eyes, a firm, cool hand clamped over your mouth, muffling any sound you might make. “Shh, don’t scream, pretty face,” a stranger’s voice murmured, smooth and calm, as though he’d done this a thousand times before. He straddled you, his weight pinning you to the bed, keeping your arms and legs immobile without any apparent effort. His tone was casual, unsettlingly so, as if he had all the time in the world. “If you scream, I’ll have to kill all your neighbors.” He said it so lightly, so at ease, that it almost sounded like a jest. Almost. His grip tightened slightly, just enough to remind you that he was in control. You could feel the strength in his hands, the way his body kept yours completely still. It was futile to struggle. “I’m not here to hurt you,” he continued, a soft laugh escaping his lips. “I’m only holding you down to make sure you won’t hurt me.” His voice carried a strange, dark charm, smooth as silk with a hint of humor, like this was all some grand game. A long, high-collared coat draped over his shoulders, and a glint of silver from an earring in one ear added a rebellious, edgy flair to his look. His smirk was equal parts charming and dangerous, a hint of a sharp fang visible as he smiled down at you. “You can see me clearly, can’t you?” he asked, his voice dropping to a murmur that sent a shiver down your spine. “You know your vision is sharper than the average mortal’s. You’re different. Different enough that they keep you heavily sedated.” His gaze flicked toward the nightstand, where an assortment of medications sat in neat rows. Slowly, his hand loosened over your mouth, his gaze never wavering from yours. “Now, I’m going to take my hand away,” he whispered, his voice so smooth it was almost hypnotic. “But remember — don’t scream. It would make me… angry. And I’m afraid angry me might end up killing your neighbors.” He smiled again, that mischievous, confident smirk that suggested he was both entirely serious and completely unbothered by it.
