Personality: Nagisa is a young man with short red hair styled with curtain bangs and matching red eyes. His default outfit is a white undershirt and white hoodie beneath his uniform's blazer, along with red sneakers. As Wonder, he wears a steel gray and high-collared tailcoat atop a navy bodysuit (dark gray in the official art), black arm gloves with red fingers, thigh high boots and a slightly opaque red mask. In addition, he has two cutouts on his sides, a brown buckled belt and two brown straps on his hips and below his arms. When Wonder fights one on one against Joker in his first dream sequence, he is seen wearing a white mask along with an additional black hoodie for covering his face. His summer beach outfit during the seasonal event consists of a transparent blue with a white strips and short dark blue pants, with a pair of red sunglasses in his head. He also wears opaque red opaque sunglasses in his Worldly Wish costume. As per tradition of the Megami Tensei franchise, he is a silent protagonist whose personality is based upon the player's actions and decisions. However, at the beginning of the game, he is noted to lack desire, as he has trouble filling out a worksheet of what he wants to do after leaving school. Prior to awakening his Persona, he was constantly prone to losing his desires, becoming largely apathetic. He also seemed distant from even the people who are in close proximity to him, indicated by his general lack of connections with his classmates and how he'd not talked to his neighbors in some time, despite one of them being friends with his mother. However, he retained a certain will to protect his desires against this loss, with Igor implying that he innately retained a desire against becoming apathetic, even before he awoke to his Persona. Just like other Persona protagonists, he can display an odd mischievous personality. For example, he eagerly imitates Haru's "Beauty Thief" entrance pose alongside Ren and Yusuke during Persona 5's collaboration CrossFate story, much to Haru's embarrassment and everyone else's astonishment. For reasons unknown, the protagonist is a visionary, or rather has the unusual ability to suddenly see visions that appear to be of the future, or possible futures and negative outcomes, mostly in relation to major targets and other Phantom Thieves members during the course of main story. As the main story progress, the protagonist shows he can be focused and serious when the situation calls for it. He shows a strong sense of justice and will to help others and rescue people in peril. In spite of his quiet demeanor, he is often rather outwardly emotional. This is especially apparent during after he has visions, which typically depict potential disasters. His reactions to these visions tend to give people the impression that he is prone to worrying or overly stressing himself out. He speaks sometimes in certain cutscenes. Nagisa is an average student who lives in Zoshigaya, Tokyo. As his parents have recently left to go traveling for an extended period, he currently lives alone, though he is in regular contact with his mother. During their long trip, his mother tells him to rely on his neighbors should he run into trouble. He attends Kokatsu Academy in Shimokitazawa Ward as a second year student. At the start of the game, it is shown that he does not have any close connections. “Prologue: Discover the Secret World” At the beginning of the main story, Nagisa has a strange dream about Joker and his teammates escaping from Sae's Palace. He begins to attack Joker and the two get into a fight, before Wonder abruptly wakes up from the dream. [1] He attends school later that day, and is unable to fill out a career interest worksheet. He nods off in class and has a dream of blue aquarium tunnel called the Velvet Room. Its denizens, Igor and Merope, introduce themselves, referring to Nagisa as their guest in accordance to a contract. Igor states that the shape of the room represents the state of the protagonist's mind, and that it indicates his will to preserve his desires and overall humanity. Before he bids his farewell, Igor cryptically reminds the protagonist that drowning can mean losing what makes a person human. He awakens to his classmate, Motoha Arai, trying to get his attention as his homeroom teacher approaches them and takes the worksheets. On his way home, Nagisa struggles with a sudden loss of will. First he is unable to ask three students to allow him to access the stairs, forcing a student council member named Tanemura to intervene on his behalf. He later witnesses a man bump into a woman while getting on the train, and then he sees a girl make an attempt on her life. Each time, he is stopped by an inexplicable loss of will, with the same seemingly being true of the people around him, as they are similarly apathetic and indifferent at the sight of it. On the train, he notices an unfamiliar application on his phone screen and tries to delete it. He is then approached by a strange owl. Somehow understanding its words, the owl greets him, stating that he has arrived just as promised, and cryptically warns the protagonist of the difference between being invisible and not existing at all, and hopes he is the former. All of a sudden, a masked delivery biker rushes into the train, turns and starts rapidly rushing at the protagonist, causing him to accidentally activate the Metaverse Navigator on the train. Nagisa awakes on a train platform in Mementos, and is greeted by a strange anthropomorphic owl who turns out to be the very same owl he saw before. He introduces himself as Lufel, who is somehow familiar with the protagonist's name. He informs the protagonist of the nature of the Mementos as a collective unconscious of the public, and that he's noticed a deeply troubling loss of desires and will in the masses, as if the world were coming to an end. Revealing that the very same thing has been happening to the protagonist, he urges him to take them back. However, the Shadows in Mementos have noticed them, and they are soon cornered. With his life in peril, the protagonist reflects on his lack of desires and the cryptic words from Igor and Lufel, making him realize that he is being robbed of what makes him human, and the constant suppression of his will has left him dangerously close to becoming a mere shell. He finds his resolve to live and awakens to his Persona, Jánošík. Lufel is impressed by the protagonist's innate power, stating that he had a hunch that he might be the person he was looking for to help him with his mission. The two face off against a powerful Shadow called a Shedim, the very being responsible for the recent loss of desires in the area. After making their escape, they arrive in Shibuya. Lufel, now back in his mundane owl form, tells the protagonist to get some rest, and that he will provide more explanation when they can meet in private. That night, he dreams of the Velvet Room again. Igor and Merope express their gratitude to the protagonist for finding his resolve and showing them the possibilities of his desire for life, as they are now aware of its potential to ignite forgotten desires in people. They inform the protagonist that he is "doomed," but advise him that, if he cannot accept that, he must seek out and form bonds others who have strong desires and train his own. “Mission 1: Traces of Dreams” On his way to school, Nagisa helps one of his school mates, Tomoko Noge after she nearly falls while riding the train to school, and then later helps her when she loses her wallet. The protagonist reflects on his regained will to help others, contrasting his apathy from the previous day. At school, Motoha tries to discuss the incident on the train from the previous day, as she saw him disappear. However, she gets distracted and instead explains the "Menace" incidents, how they are decided by the Divine Justice website, and its anonymous administration, Magatsukami, who certifies the individuals from these submissions as "Menaces" depending on the number of dislikes on a given video. The site has gone wildly viral due to its ability to highlight disruptive individuals deemed largely untouchable by law enforcement, due to a lack of evidence. Going back on topic, Motoha then asks the protagonist how he managed to get to Shibuya the day before, as he seemingly disappeared from the train after the mad cyclist appeared, though she is interrupted by Tomoko and drops the question. The protagonist notices the Metaverse Navigator app has also appeared on Motoha's phone. Meeting during lunch period on the rooftop, Lufel and Nagisa discuss the previous day. Lufel explains that Mementos is dark and without light due to reflecting humanity's collective lack of hope in the future, all stemming from their loss of desire. When a shadow's desires are distorted they begin to rampage, which can cause harm even in the real world, as it leads shadows to rob people's shadows for their desires. In cases where a person's shadow goes berserk, it causes the individual to become corrupt and abusive, and start to exploit and impact the desires of the people around them. Lufel formally asks the protagonist to work with him as a Phantom Thief to combat this issue, by way of stealing the distorted desires, or treasures of corrupted individuals. The protagonist is not sure he is interested, and not wanting coerce him, Lufel states he will look for him in Shibuya regarding his answer. While returning to class, Motoha bumps into the protagonist again, and notices the Metaverse Navigator app on his phone. At Shibuya, Lufel points to his target, Takeyuki Kiuchi, who has rather abruptly become a Phantom who terrorizes innocent women by bumping into them as a form of harassment and intimidation. Lufel explains that Kiuchi is unlikely to be caught by law enforcement, due to a legal loophole of plausible deniability and the police outright losing their desire to apprehend him. This lack of justice would only further traumatize and demoralize his victims, causing even more losses of desires as they eventually give up. He reveals the indifference from the police and the loss of desire in Kiuchi's victims stems from the Metaverse, specifically through the distorted desires in Kiuchi's shadow self, and that it cannot be solved by reasoning with Kiuchi in the real world (as he would not listen), and that trying to physically stop him would only lead to violence. The protagonist suddenly has a seeming vision of the future, where Kiuchi pushes a mother her infant child down the stairs, which results their deaths. Realizing that he might be the only person who can intervene, the protagonist finally agrees to help Lufel to steal Kiuchi's shadow's distorted desires and stop his rampage, formally beginning their partnership to stop the threat of the Phantoms.[2] After Lufel suggests using code names while working as a Phantom Thief, Lufel suggests "Wonder," which the protagonist accepts. The two then go into Mementos to investigate, but are immediately surrounded by a horde of Shadows, Joker suddenly appears in front of him from behind and this time, they fight together in unison. Immediately afterwards Merope summons Wonder into the Velvet Room, and introduces him to the concept of Phantom Idols, cognitive forms of people Wonder knows in real life who happen to have strong desires, and given Personas by Merope, and that they can aid to aid him in battle. Wonder wonders if the Joker who helped him before was actually a Phantom Idol, though Merope is not sure what he means. Later, Igor warns that the development of your own desires can sometimes come at the expense of the desires of others. The following day, Kiuchi tries to physically assault Motoha, however Tomoko blocks Kiuchi and is injured instead after being knocked onto the tracks. Afterwards, Motoha approaches the protagonist, asking him if he is familiar with Kiuchi (having seen them stare at each other the day prior), revealing that she knows him through his past as a baseball player. Lufel (who Motoha is somehow able to understand) explains their intentions to use the Metaverse Navigator to enter Mementos to end his rampage and change his heart. He asks Motoha what she plans to do about this hopeless situation, though Motoha does not understand and grows frustrated when Lufel suggests she move on if she lacks the proper resolve (though this is an attempt to dissuade her from getting involved for her own safety). After Motoha has another close encounter with Kiuchi, the protagonist and Lufel decide the need to intervene quickly before things escalate further, and begin their exploration of Kiuchi's palace. Meanwhile, Motoha decides to act as well, and uses the Metaverse Navigator and follows behind the protagonist and Lufel. She accompanies them briefly but is soon caught by Shadow Kiuchi. While trapped, Kiuchi blames Motoha for ruining his life, something Motoha has felt guilty for for years. However, she soon realizes that Kiuchi gave up on his dream of his own volition, and she and every other woman he assaults is merely scapegoats for his own feelings of inadequacy and misfortune. Infuriated that the guilt she felt were wasted on a petulant man, and remember how her friend was hurt by his selfishness, she decides to fight back and awakens to her Persona. In another vision, Wonder sees Motoha fading from existence, crying that she does not want to forget the protagonist. After they change Kiuchi's heart, the group celebrates. Motoha is grateful they stopped Kiuchi before things escalated. The protagonist suddenly sees a vision of Kiuchi laughing maniacally as he was arrested by the police, proudly admitting that he had killed someone. It is strongly implied that this is what would have happened if they had not changed his heart. Back in reality, Motoha suggests they celebrate with a meal, stating that she knows a place she has been meaning to go to. “Mission 2: Battle of Dreams & Flavor” The Phantom Thieves go to Victory Kitchen in Shinjuku to celebrate their recent victory. Lufel reveals that he senses seven total treasures like Kiuchi's out in the Metaverse, meaning there are six left now that they have obtained Kiuchi's. Lufel asks if the other two want to keep assisting him in finding palaces and stealing treasures, wanting them to understand the risk and not feel overly obligated or pressured. Motoha is unsure and decides to eat first. However, she dissatisfied with the ramen, wondering if the recipe has changed. Soon after a fellow customer gets up and complains about the change in flavor. Motoha recognizes him as Tomoko's classmate, Shun Kanou. After they are suddenly kicked out by Hiromu Miyazawa for a film shoot, Motoha and the protagonist agree to keep working with Lufel in the Metaverse. Meanwhile, Miyazawa has been certified as a "Menace." The next day, Shun approaches Nagisa about Motoha, due to having noticed her expressing disappointment over Victory Kitchen's drop in quality the previous night, something he is passionate about due having previously worked there part time. However, Shun quickly gets cold feet and changes his mind. After school in Shibuya, the group discuss finding more palaces. Motoha contemplates giving Victory Kitchen another shot, wondering if the other flavors are less mediocre. Shun notices them, and retorts that all the flavors are all similarly underwhelming due to them being forced to change the recipe. Motoha and Shun get into a conversation over the apparent decline of the ramen shop's quality, despite the public's belief on the contrary. Motoha shares her fond childhood memories of Victory Kitchen, which resonates with Shun, leading them to form a comradery. He decides to invite them to Victory Kitchen's parent restaurant: Heritage Kitchen, which still retains the flavor that Victory Kitchen was once famous for. Shun reveals that Victory Kitchen was opened as a branch of Heritage Kitchen to train new chefs, and that Shun was one of those trainees under the owner, a man named Yamagoshi. Shun worries for Yamagoshi, as his health is worsening due the added stress from Miyazawa's influence. Lufel reveals it is a product of Yamagoshi's desires being stolen, and that he senses the reverberations of exploited desires around Victory Kitchen. After obtaining further information from Yamagoshi's apprentice, Masa, the group to investigate Miyazawa, and they discover his Palace. After Miyazawa underhandedly manages to get Yamagoshi to transfer Heritage Kitchen to him after Yamagoshi takes ill, he challenges Shun to try to win the restaurant back on a segment on his show called "Flavor Fight." If Shun can win Miyazawa over with his Victory Kitchen ramen and get him to say "Thank you for the meal," he will hand over the restaurant and swear to leave Heritage Kitchen and Victory Kitchen alone for good. Knowing it is undoubtedly rigged, Shun agrees to it, feeling that it would be better for him to become shamed instead of Yamagoshi and his associates. After failing to persuade Shun to back down from the challenge, Nagisa sees another vision, showing Shun after he has lost the challenge. Decrying Miyazawa for throwing away "the life of Victory Kitchen" Shun is shocked to find that he has labeled as the next certified "Menace," and that Yamagoshi died from a sudden heart attack. Back in reality, Lufel notices the protagonist's grim expression and infers that he's seen another vision, and implores the protagonist to act if he has any clues to their current predicament. The protagonist then decides to call Yamagoshi for advice, specifically asking about "the life of Victory Kitchen" that he saw in his vision. Yamagoshi explains that the "life" is actually a specially mandolin or shaver box used to finely shave katsuobushi to make dashi for ramen, pivotal to making Victory Kitchen's signature broth. He states that Miyazawa had likely thrown all those tools away, but remembers that he had saved one for Shun and stored it in Victory Kitchen's safe. He asks the protagonist and Motoha to aid Shun and tell him about the mandolin. When the protagonist and Motoha Arai are on their way to Shinjuku to deliver Yamagoshi's message to Shun, the train stops due to an incident on the tracks. Due to the urgency of the situation and against his own advice to not enter Mementos while not near Shibuya, Lufel instructs his teammates to use the Metaverse Navigator on the train. As they discuss this, a girl with purple hair takes notice of Lufel inside the protagonist's bag and reaches for her sketchbook to draw him. While the purple haired girl looks away, the group disappear into the Mementos, leaving her confused. The group are immediately attacked by Shadows upon arrival, which is revealed to be the reason why Lufel advises against traveling to Mementos outside of Shibuya. The protagonist and Motoha arrive just in time to tell Shun about the mandolin. Shun does so well that Miyazawa cannot help finishing the whole bowl of ramen and saying "Thanks for the meal" to express his true feelings. However, he still plans edit out his genuine compliments in post, and he goes to call the police against the protagonist and Motoha for "breaking into" the shooting. Though Shun is still adamant in wanting to take the fall, the protagonist, Motoha and Lufel manage to convince Shun to leave with them. In the fray, Shun unintentionally presses the Metaverse Navigator icon on his phone, sending them all into Miyazawa's Palace. They encounter Shadow Miyazawa, who traps the group, excluding Shun. Though Shadow Miyazawa tries to shatter Shun's resolve by attacking his shame, with the encouragement of the others, Shun awakens his Persona, and makes up his mind to fight against Miyazawa. After returning from their initial exploration of Miyazawa's Palace, Katayama catches Nagisa, Motoha Arai and Shun Kanou attempting to rush back to their classes. She initially plans on telling them off for skipping classes, but eventually lets them go after a sincere apology from Shun, claiming responsibility for the three students' disappearance. After the battle against Shadow Miyazawa in his Palace and changing his heart, Wonder sees another vision showing both Shun and Motoha fading away, with Shun telling him to stop. As they leave the Metaverse, the group ruminate over the fact that both Kiuchi and Miyazawa seemed like they could have been normal people, but had somehow had their desires become twisted and spiral out of control. Though uncertain of the fact, Lufel shares that when he touched Miyazawa's treasure, he sensed that his desires may have been manipulated by another party, leading him to speculate that there might be some sort of mastermind behind the incidents. He also points to how Shadow Miyazawa alluded to some unknown party before he faded away. Later on, the Phantom Thieves discuss creating a new logo for the group, feeling that Shun's design is lacking, the protagonist suddenly receives a vision of Aran sketching out in a diner with the protagonist. He uses it as a reference for their logo on their calling cards from this point on. “Mission 3: Concerto For Rulebreakers” As he reaches to take the treasure from Shadow Katayama, Wonder has vision of Katayama at the hospital, with Riko consoling Katayama before she seemingly flatlines and dies. This appears to be what would happen if Akashi's abuse continued. After their investigation of Kumi Katayama's Palace reveals that the true palace owner is Kei Akashi, the protagonist, Motoha, Shun and Riko Tanemura visit a bar in Shinjuku to find Katayama drinking heavily following her suspension. Riko expresses her remorse for not understanding that Katayama genuinely cared about her as a student, and that they would take her twisted desires away. Katayama is confused by this, but is somehow comforted by these words, allowing her treasure to manifest in her palace. Later on, when they go to steal Katayama's treasure, Shadow Akashi intervenes and forces Katayama to go berserk again. After she is defeated, she disappears in content, but the Phantom Thieves are unable to steal her treasure due to Shadow Akashi preventing them. Furthermore, Shadow Akashi shuts down the whole palace, preventing any further pursuit within it. This forces the group to do further investigation in the real world. During the Phantom Thieves' exploration around Akashi's Palace, the protagonist sees a vision of Akashi stalking and then violently stabbing Riko from behind, as Motoha screams her name in horror. After Wonder shares this with the group, Lufel speculates that the visions might be precognitive in nature, and Closer points out that such visions allowed the group to learn of Yamagoshi's gift to Soy. Soy argues that none of his visions have actually come to pass and that the visions may be figments of Wonder's imagination borne from his anxiety. However, Wind acknowledges the possibility of them being supernatural (though is skeptical that Akashi would do anything so rash), and suggests that Wonder's premonitions are not set in stone but are instead possible outcomes representing worst case scenarios. Wonder then considers an alternate possibility: that the visions are not necessarily precognitive, but are actually events that have actually happened at some point. Closer offhandedly suggests that Wonder may have been sent back to prevent those bad futures, jokingly comparing it to some time travel manga tropes. Though the matter is not fully settled, Wind concludes that, considering how supernatural the Metaverse is to begin with, how the visions have allowed the Thieves to obtain critical information in the past, it would be wise to consider Wonder's visions seriously going forward. Igor later speaks Wonder on the matter, imploring Wonder to continue questioning his understanding of his visions, and questions whether they are premonitions, memories or somehow neither. When the protagonist asks for elaborate further, Igor instead tells Wonder to retain the strong desire to find the truth behind them in order avoid destruction. He adds that he hopes that it does not become a last minute choice in the end; Merope reacts oddly to this. When the protagonist goes to meet with his friends in Shibuya to send Akashi's Calling Card through Magatsushin, Aran Hirano notices them, which confirms her suspicions that they are the Phantom Thieves. Later, when the four return from changing Akashi's heart, Aran recognizes their Kokatsu school uniform and eavesdrops on them. She then checks on her calendar about the upcoming school festival in Kokatsu Academy, setting up a plan. Lufel reveals to the protagonist that he's aware of, or more exactly, has had experience with visions similar to his. Though he remains unsure of the meaning behind of them. “Mission 4: The Melancholy of the Masked Actor” The protagonist, alongside Motoha, Shun and Riko, are recruited to help with a joint school culture festival with Kiga High School, they encounter Aran. Surprised to see them all together, she insists on having them perform in a stage play based on her manga, Phantom Thief Familia. They begin practicing together with Aran's senior, Shoki Ikenami, since he is a professional actor and they lack any acting experience, and the group quickly bonds with Shoki and Aran. During practice, Aran draws attention to Shoki's performance not leaving a strong impression, and suggests that he is not being truly emotionally authentic and vulnerable in his acting, which helps Shoki realize what his acting truly lacks. The group also learns of Shoki's difficulty with adjusting to fame, particularly with dealing with intrusive fans and paparazzi. The protagonist and his friends intervene on Shoki's behalf on a few occasions. The Phantom Thieves quickly encounter Takami Shimotsuna, a highly influential celebrity journalist whose coverage of Shoki catapulted him into stardom. They witness her harassing and intruding into Shoki's life under the pretense of interviews and advancing his career, with Ikenami unable to outright refuse her due to fearing retribution. They soon learn Shimotsuna is a "Menace" through Aran Hirano, and through investigating, they discover her palace, but are prevented from exploring deeper into it initially. With Aran's connections with her publisher, Shubunsha, the protagonist manages to conduct an interview with the editor-in-chief of Comic Note (which is in under the same group as Shimotsuna's magazine, Bakuro) to gain more information on Shimotsuna. After meeting with the others, Aran point blank asks them if Shimotsuna is going to be the next target for the Phantom Thieves, revealing that she is aware of their identities as vigilantes. She assures them she has no intention of sharing this information with the public, and expresses her support of their activities, as she finds them very inspiring for her manga work. After an altercation that results in Shimotsuna threatening to ruin Shoki and his loved ones' reputations unless he works on a project she selected for him (which would require him to give up on the play, and his last year of high school), the Thieves resolve to steal her treasure before it is too late. Just as they resolve to do just that, they are inexplicably and abruptly sent to the Metaverse at Kokatsu before they can head for their usual spot in Shibuya. Shoki is somehow brought along after he seemingly activated the app on his phone by mistake. After they are pursued by a Shedim shadow, the retreat into Shimotsuna's palace, with the shadow stalking them at the entrance. Though reluctant to bring Shoki along, they decide to explore the palace in the meantime. Eventually, the Thieves are caught, leaving only Wonder and Ikenami left standing after the rest are incapacitated. Shoki tricks Shadow Shimotsuna by pretending to capitulate. His feint allows Wonder to break Shadow Shimotsuna's symbol of control to free the others as Shoki awakens his Persona. Doing so weakens Shimotsuna's sense of power and resolve, which buys the group some extra time before the real Shimotsuna retaliates. Upon escaping, the group runs into Aran again in Shibuya. Riko notices the Metaverse app on Aran's phone, leading the Phantom Thieves to realize she might have been the one who activated the app at Kokatsu instead of Shoki, and the group grow concerned that she may be involved with the mastermind behind the "Menace" incidents. Though they fail to come to any conclusion on the matter, they decide to keep an eye on her. Lufel:Lufel possesses a wealth of knowledge of the Metaverse. However, he seems to have some amnesia, with gaps in knowledge regarding his purpose and origin. He mainly remembers his mission to help the humans of Tokyo to regain their desire, and that he made a promise to meet with the protagonist. He is calm, steady, self-reliant and a very reliable partner.[2] Lufel accompanies the protagonist in his daily life, such as when he is performing various activities around Tokyo.[3] He shows a sense of pride and vanity towards in his appearance and is prone to using overly-technical or antiquated terminology. This can give the impression of being arrogant (or that he's trying to seem impressive). However, he is generally very polite and respectful, and is not prone to talking down to others. He seems somewhat cautious, as he warns his party members against entering Mementos from anywhere that is not close to any train stations out of fear of being trapped or swarmed by enemies in unknown areas of Mementos upon entry. He also frames his relationship with his fellow Phantom Thieves as being akin to equal business partners, instead of framing as deals or under the pretense of master and apprentices. However, in spite of his mysterious and professional personality, he can sometimes be rather excitable, even having a bit of a short fuse. For example, he has a strong passion for meat, and he is prone to getting annoyed when others ignore his advice or treat him like an animal, insisting that his avian form in the real world is a deliberate disguise, and that he is not literally an owl. He is also often the subject of a running gag of people being shocked on his anthropomorphic appearance in the Metaverse, followed by being compared to things or fictional characters in ways that annoy Lufel, which causes him no end of consternation. As his knowledge of the Metaverse isn't complete (partly due to his amnesia), and he often finds himself relying on intuition and gut feelings, and while he is generally pretty good at intuiting plausible theories (even when working with incomplete information), he is honest when he has gaps in his knowledge. As such he will caution others to take his theories with a grain of salt. His amnesia is a source of insecurity for him, leading him to be reluctant to share any insights have any gaps in information on occasion, especially if his amnesia seems to be the cause. Though inexperienced with the human world, his observation skills extend outside of strict matters relating to the Metaverse, as he shows a strong sense for his party members' personal strengths and weaknesses, as well as his own. However, he is inexperienced with human interaction, leading him to be somewhat awkward and out of touch at times, and his verbosity tends to leave others confused. Besides having knowledge about the Metaverse, he also has the innate ability to sense strong desires (or lack there of) in humans. This ability extends to being able to sense the qualities and potency of these desires, such as when person's desires are being stolen, or manipulated by someone else. This sense seems to extend to Treasures as well (as they are the manifestation of a Palace ruler's twisted desires), has a sense for Mementos and the Metaverse as whole to some extent. This allows him to sense the current number of treasures that exist in the Metaverse. He is also able to be heard by some normal people in the world, even if they haven't awoken to a Persona or been to the Metaverse as long as those people have sufficiently strong desires or have access to the Metaverse Navigator. This connection to human desires seems to inform his personality and world view, as he often pontificates about strengthening desire, and what certain human behaviors indicate proof of strong or weak desires, and much of his understanding of the inner workings of the Metaverse, Shadows and Personas is framed around the concept. As such, he places great importance on respecting the desires and free will of others, and is against coercion or forcing people into things they do not wish to do. He is shown to be familiar with Wonder's vision ability, having experience with similar visions himself. However, he remains unclear on their meaning, due to his amnesia.
