However, he has also been shown to sport different color/patterned shirts underneath his trench coat. He also carries a briefcase around on his back, which in it contains his signature, large, Swiss army knife-like weapon. Tattoos: Nagumo has many tattoos, most of which are hidden by his clothing. His tattoos have mathematical inspirations, in particular, referencing the Golden Ratio. Tattoos shown include: On the left side of his neck, he has a marking of the Fibonacci Spiral. The growth factor of the Fibonacci Spiral is the golden ratio, ~1.6180. Two rectangular tattoos on both his hands, another reference to the golden ratio. A snake coiled around his lower left leg. A swallow on the right side of his right leg, just below the knee. An impossible shape on his shin, below the swallow tattoo. A square made of various spaced lines and curves on his right thigh. A mandala-esque pattern on his right shoulder. A pair of praying hands on his left pectoral. Likely inspired by the Praying Hands drawing by Albrecht Dürer. Anton Chekhov's quote "Although you may tell lies, people will believe you, if only you speak with authority" on his right bicep. A line or lines which intersect, wrapping around his left posterior/anterior forearm. A patterned, isosceles triangle on his left posterior forearm. A rectangular tattoo on his right tricep. Arthur Schopenhauer quote "The doctor sees all the weakness of mankind; the lawyer all wickedness, the theologian all the stupidity." on his right side. A pair of hands featured in the famous painting "The Creation Of Adam" by Michelangelo, but on the tattoo what would be Adam's hand is flipped so the palm faces upwards as supposed to down. Friends: Taro Sakamoto: The two became fast friends since they were both 14, back when they're enrolled at JCC. Nagumo cares a lot about him, to the point of not wanting Sakamoto to be in line of danger despite knowing his help is needed. Taro Sakamoto had a wife named Aoi and a daughter Hana. Rion Akao: Nagumo met Rion after he transferred to the Assassin Department. Together with Sakamoto, they became an inseparable trio who caused properties damage and engaging in playful banters and fights. After Rion died, Nagumo investigated her death through several varieties of method. Such as paying for Kindaka's recovery bills and rescuing Yotsumura from drowning, so he can order the latter to look up for any intel related to Rion. Nagumo hesitated to attack Uzuki when Rion took control of his body, and bore the brunt of Takamura's attack in Uzuki's stead. Allies: Shishiba While working together, Nagumo tends to pester and annoy Shishiba a lot. However, they respect each other and come to assist when necessary. Osaragi Hyo Shin Asakura Satoru Yotsumura Personality: Nagumo's most notable traits are his laidback attitude and constant smile, which seems to be impossible to wipe off his face, and his incredible talent in annoying others around him to the point of them wanting him dead. Nagumo is easygoing and carefree, even in the middle of an intense battle, claiming to enjoy the wind in his hair as he stabs a man in the arm. He is also very playful with his opponents, evading and tricking Minimalist, a hardened serial killer, before handing him some dice to decide which of his blades he'd die by. However, when the matters concerned that of his friends, Nagumo tends to show his actual feelings. One such case is when he shoves Uzuki out of Takamura's path; he wondered why he saved the villain despite the murders Uzuki committed, influenced by the fact that what little left of Rion resided inside Uzuki's body. Nagumo believes that the key to killing is "deception", despite claiming to abhor it. Skills & Abilities: Overall Skill Level: Nagumo is a ex-member of the Order, and one of the strongest assassins in Japan. As a student Nagumo was one of the three greatest prospects to ever step foot into the JCC alongside Taro Sakamoto and Rion Akao, Kindaka a member of the Order stated that the three of them could be future leaders of the assassin world. In current time, Slur considered Nagumo as one of the top two fighters in the Order, and thus the second strongest assassin in the JAA. Granny Miya stated that he is currently stronger than Taro Sakamoto due to the latter's five year-long retirement. Kashima, a powerful assassin working for Slur, classified Nagumo as an S-rank target on the hit list he created. Taro Sakamoto, "the legendary hitman" himself, even stated that it would take a lot for Nagumo to lose a fight. Due to his exceptional combat abilities, he was able to put Gaku, one of Uzuki's strongest subordinates on the brink of death after engaging him in battle. Master of Disguise: Nagumo can copy other people's appearances perfectly in an instant, which he used to fool Lu Shaotang by disguising as Sakamoto. He can also disguise others, including significantly altering someone's body shape, such as disguising the fat Sakamoto as his wife, Aoi. When disguising Sakamoto, Nagumo says the disguise would only last for twenty-four hours. Master Combatant: Rion Akao states that Nagumo does everything with coordination and skill, which makes him a deadly combatant. This was made evident in his fight against Gaku; despite being outmatched in physical ability, Nagumo was able to defeat him with his combat skill and trickery. His combat skill was evaluated by Slur to be among the top two in the Order. Nagumo is also able to render a man completely unconscious with only his killing intent. Nagumo is extremely proficient with bladed weapons. He was able to decapitate Minimalist with ease, and kill multiple assassins in one swift motion before they could even react. Nagumo was able to land devastating strikes on Gaku by catching him off guard with hidden weapons or by distracting him with his dice. Even after his weapon was destroyed, leaving him with all his blades separated, Nagumo was able to fight on par with Gaku and eventually pierce him with the separated blades to end the fight. Master Marksman: Nagumo can use firearms with great proficiency. He ranked 4th place in the top 10 greatest shooters of all time at the JCC, having scored 84 points. Morse Code: Nagumo can use morse code, as shown when he uses the signal lights of a moving vehicle to tell Shishiba that he was "killing". Keen Intellect: Nagumo was a part of the intelligence-gathering department during his younger days at the JCC. He is a highly perceptive individual, quickly able to deduce Kindaka's theory of a spy existing within the JAA's organization without the latter even saying anything, and was also able to quickly notice that Erio Muto, a JAA executive, was a spy working for Slur. His intellect and planning is partly what makes him such a deadly fighter, as he's able to stay one step ahead of his opponent through deception and schemes. Poison Knowledge: Most likely due to his upbringing as a spy’s apprentice and his training at the JCC, Nagumo is knowledgeable of how poison works and understands how to adapt to it. Enhanced Speed and Reflexes: Nagumo is capable of moving at extreme speeds, being fast enough to instantaneously disappear from a person’s sight. He can move so quick that he managed to catch even Shin, a trained assassin and clairvoyant, off guard, as well as decapitate Minimalist in an instant. Assassins working for Slur were unable to pinpoint or react to him, even as he sat on top of and inside their vehicle and massacred them. Nagumo was also able to react to a powerful slash attack from Takamura, attacks from Satoru Yotsumura, a former member of the Order, as well as save Heisuke Mashimo from a potential head shot. He is slightly faster than Gaku, as they were neck and neck before Nagumo shifted into a higher gear. Enhanced Strength: Nagumo has incredible physical strength despite his skinny build. He was able to casually lift Minimalist, a large man, by the neck with one hand and was strong enough to contend with Yotsumura's attacks which could easily slice through the steel supports of a car carrier trailer. Enhanced Endurance: Nagumo has a high degree of physical endurance. He was able to fight Sakamoto and Rion for nine hours straight, and withstand Kobayashi's poison long enough to receive an antidote. After a tough battle against Gaku, Nagumo still had plenty of strength left to disguise himself as the former and land a surprise attack on Kei Uzuki. Enhanced Durability: Nagumo is an incredibly resilient man despite his skinny build. He remains completely unharmed after taking a powerful hit from Gaku that sent him flying through multiple walls, a display airplane, and a car. Even after taking a point-blank ranged attack from Gaku's powerful laser cannon that sent him crashing down to the ground with devastating force, Nagumo received only minor injuries. Equipments: Multi-Blade Weapon: Nagumo carries a large Swiss army knife-like weapon that has many different fold and pop-out blades. Although he states that it has six functions, his weapon has two detachable short swords within it, can turn into an axe, a scythe, and also has a ceramic blade hidden within it that appears invisible to his enemies. The blades are sharp enough to pierce through a car roof and durable enough to withstand powerful blows from Yotsumura. In the past, he carried each blade separately under his trench coat. Dice: Nagumo uses some dice to decide which blade he will kill his enemy by, or to distract his enemy to deliver a devastating blow. Backstory: JCC Days When he was old enough, Nagumo enrolled in the Japan Clear Creation of the Japanese Association of Assassins. He was originally in the Spy department because of his family's long roots in spying but transferred to the Assassin department as it looked more fun. While attending, Nagumo met Taro Sakamoto and Rion Akao, who wanted to jump him by picking a fight. Nagumo became close with the two students as they became inseparable and well-known troublemakers together. He also met Boiled a hardboiled student with attitude but dorky sense of style as the two became friends through Sakamoto, a senior student named Hyo and his teachers Etsuko Satoda, a retired assassin famous for her martial arts and Yamada, the vice principal who found his, Rion, and Sakamoto's antics continually frustrating. Nagumo, Sakamoto, and Rion regularly got into trouble together, causing even more problems during a field trip/paintball game. Sick of all the mayhem that the trio caused, Yamada decides to expel all three of them as they damaged faculties, ignored class rules, used weapons without permission, etc. which made them infamous in the school and didn't have enough credits to pass anyway. But the vice principle arranged for an extra assignment that would determine whether they could pass that year which was advocated for making special exception from their teacher Satoda. The assignment - kill the target in the envelope. Casually accepting it, the trio left the office not aware of the true intentions of the assignment. While deciding on who gets to do the homework for the mission, Rion bumps into another student who excuses himself and declines her offer in wanting macho-style rock paper scissors. The trio in the midst of getting ready to leave are stopped by the vice principle who places another teammate for the mission named Kei Uzuki, a third-year student from the same department as them. The group arrive at a department store in the city and Nagumo explains that the target is a leader of an illegal weapons manufacturing ring called the "Steel Dragon" with intel stating that he hides there. After dealing with an assassin in an elevator, they learn that the Steel Dragon runs the entire store and that they're already being watched. Splitting up, Nagumo and Sakamoto go to the third floor of the electronics department. They hide behind a register while handling and taking out assassins. They encounter a man named Kindaka who appears behind them. Nagumo and Sakamoto attack Kindaka, but the old man surprises the two with his overwhelming speed. Life in Order Three days after Uzuki and Rion disappeared, Nagumo and Sakamoto visit Kindaka in the hospital. They meet Satoru Yotsumura who is also visiting Kindaka who has fallen into a coma. Nagumo asks the current status of the investigation on Uzuki but Yotsumura's crypticness and suspicions towards Rion angers both him and Sakamoto as the latter tries to hit him but is quickly stopped by Hyo who tells him to calm down. Surprisingly, Yotsumura offers them both membership into Order and tells them that if they want to find Rion and Uzuki, they should look for themselves. A year into joining Order, Nagumo contacts Sakamoto and tells him that he's found out Uzuki's whereabouts with information from a friend and sends Sakamoto his location. Nagumo tells Sakamoto not to kill Uzuki before finding out where Rion is. Nagumo would later hear about the situation and learn out about Rion's death. Nagumo, in the next unknown number of years before the present day, continues to work as an assassin and hitman as a member of Order. He would sometimes work with the other members like Hyo and others in a number of missions. He also got to know Shishiba, Yotsumura's student and partner, in this period. Nagumo and Sakamoto, at one point, destroyed a smuggling ring together and saved a little girl named Nao Toramaru in the process. On another such mission, Nagumo alongside Sakamoto, Hyo, and Kamihate were in some foreign, war-torn city. As he, Sakamoto, and Hyo found themselves in a pinch, surrounded by at least 10 enemy snipers aiming to kill them, they watched on as Kamihate, hidden someplace away, shot down all opposition for them in rapid succession, sealing their victory. Trivia: Nagumo ranked 2nd place in the manga's 1st Character Popularity Poll with 10,800 votes. One of Nagumo's blades doubles as a can opener at parties. Nagumo has a "gold assassin license", though how this differs from a regular assassin license is unknown. Nagumo tends to get carsick a lot. Nagumo is the son of a famous spy family.
