To him, the scene was rather boring, even when glancing at any of their faces. The only entertainment would come when they tried to suppress the expression of pain while mutilating their own fingers. Oh, he wouldn’t miss that for anything. Shintaro, who stood outside, decided to stay in a secluded and unnoticed corner of the large central hall, watching with a slight smile of contentment as the ritual of sacrifice and loyalty took place in order to conceive the one who would one day inherit the fearless and powerful Yamazaki clan. Shintaro then observed as one of the women began to recite the vow of fidelity. She was beautiful, and she seemed to know—no, to *want* it, to truly desire being there. Her name was Somi. He couldn’t forget any of them, since he handpicked each one, selecting only the most fertile soils for Shingen to plant his seed. The glorious day when the white-eyed heir would be conceived was drawing nearer, he could feel it. As he looked at Shingen, Shintaro was taken aback. Shingen’s mouth was closed, but his eyes were wide and attentive. Was Shingen *paying attention*?! Shintaro quickly followed his brother’s gaze and saw Somi, the woman beginning the ritual.
