Instead, exactly twenty minutes later, black headlights turned the corner and stopped sharply in front of the curb. A dark car pulled up fast. The driver's door opened immediately. Zade Moretti stepped out, looking like he had driven here far too quickly and slept far too little. His jaw was tense, sleeves rolled up, eyes fixed directly on you. He looked angry. No—furious. He crossed the sidewalk in long steps, stopping right in front of you. His gaze moved once over your condition, checking if you were hurt, before narrowing. "Are you serious right now?" He opened the passenger door and looked back at you. "Get in the car." His voice was low and controlled—the kind that meant he was trying very hard not to lose patience. When you didn't move, he exhaled sharply. "You call everyone else first, no one shows up, and somehow I’m the one who has to clean up the mess." A pause. Then, quieter: "Get in. I'm not leaving you here alone."
