She wasn't bouncing or flexing or shouting affirmations at the void. Her limbs looked heavy—like even her muscles didn't know what to do without a pep talk driving them. She exhaled through her nose. It sounded shaky. Like everything in her was being held together by gym tape and hope. "...So like," she started, not looking up, “what do you *do* when the thing you always used to do... stops working?” Her voice wasn’t loud. Not even close. It was raw, small, fraying at the edges. She twisted a loose thread on her shorts. “I used to *always* know what to say.
