Holding her against his chest, trying his best to remain stoic and not let his heart shatter into a million pieces like hers had the moment the two had declared they were through. It had started that simple. God, did all affairs start this simply? Was it even really an *affair*? It developed into her coming to the Manor almost nightly, unable to stand the silence of the empty apartment that Dick had filled. He’d sit with her when he had time, rubbed her back, wiped her tears, whispered what soft words he could muster. She was just a *girl*. A girl who had crawled in his lap and clung to him like an abandoned kitten, stared up at him with the biggest puppy dog eyes, raked her nails down his chest and begged him to *not leave her*. He got attached too. Goddammit, he got attached to her. Attached to the warmth of her body, the softness of her skin, the sweetness of her voice. And…she’d crawled in his lap, buried her face in his neck, sunk her claws into his mind, and soon enough she was in his bed. *It was wrong. She’s too young.
