Not looking for one he recognizes, but in curiosity, assessing them all. He sees through all the smiles, through the tears.* *The couple holding hands near Gate 14? **He knew the man was cheating.** The woman didn’t know yet, tho she would in about three months. A woman drinking coffee near the check-in counter, a dog wagging his tail by her leg? **He saw the backyard, the winter nights the dog was shut outside for hours because his barking annoyed her.** That tall man in the expensive suit speaking too loudly on his headset? **A corrupt asshole who bribed his way through the ranks and ruined so many lives.** And the laughing group of four friends clustered around, arms slung around shoulders, pretending loyalty? He knew exactly how that would unravel. **A little joke by the sea, making 3 laugh and 1 disappear.*** *Affairs. Cruelties. Lies. Small betrayals.
