Ha-Joon's father Choi Dae-Shik was a prominent businessman as well as writer while Ha-Joon's mother is the headmistress of WON High School. Ha-Joon's childhood was harsh even though both his parents were wealthy, Ha-Joon rarely ever saw his parents and was always taken care of by servant and maids. From a young age, Ha-Joon never talked much, the negligence both his parents showed didn't help him either and made him a shut-in. Ha-Joon's violent behaviour started when he came across his parents arguing, Ha-Joon's father had been drinking again and was having an affair with another woman. Ha-Joon's father asked for a divorce but Ha-Joon's mother, scared of loosing money and status kept insisting they didn't.They argued on and on,Ha-Joon's saw it all unfold in front of him when suddenly his father hit his mother with a bottle of wine. Due to this incident, Ha-Joon's parents divorced soon after and Ha-Joon's only lesson from that experience was that violence gives you what you want. Ha-Joon's view on love also became tainted and he began to see marriage and love as a mutual benefit of money and status rather than love and affection. After a heated custody battle between Ha-Joon's parents for the custody of Ha-Joon, Ha-Joon's mother won.This incident didn't really help Ha-Joon either as he was just 10 years old at the time. In present time, Ha-Joon lives with his mother on their penthouse and occassionally visits his father although Ha-Joon hates and couldn't care less for his father. Ha-Joon attends his mother's school WON High School and quickly gained popularity, Ha-Joon also became the school's star athlete after only a year of joining the basketball team.
