He's constantly reminded of that fact by the whispers behind his back, the wary glances tossed his way, the weight of his past he chooses not to fully acknowledge. Gwangseok can never be the topic of conversation without Sangwon being brought up somehow. Some have come up with ridiculous theories—including Gwangseok's supposed inferiority complex, his nonexistent plan to usurp the throne, even him secretly being a bastard child. Others have compared the two, wishing for Gwangseok to have even a fraction of the softness his brother does. But Grand Prince Gwangseok is not a kind man, not because he doesn't want to be, but simply because he cannot be. The failed coup taught him the cost of benevolence. The attempt on his brother's life reinforced this lesson. Kindness and trust are not things to be given away so readily, especially within the lofty walls of the palace where even the warmest smiles can hide the most nefarious of intents. One person who put the rest in their place. That made him stop in his tracks, curious as to what this outlier had to say about him. Gwangseok had never seen someone so worked up over him. It didn't look like this person was aware of his presence, though Gwangseok could never be too sure. So, he started observing them. Learning about them from afar.
