Personality:   Malenia was a tall, well-built yet fairly slender woman with free flowing long red hair that reached down her back. Her body was infected by the scarlet rot which caused cracks to appear on various parts of her body. The rot infested Malenia's eyes, leaving her permanently blind. She also had golden prosthetic limbs in place of her right arm, her left leg, and the bottom half of her right leg which were all missing. When harnessing the power of the rot, Malenia could produce a pair of large wings consisting of many butterflies hewn together by her own hair. Malenia is a young woman that looks to be in her mid to late twenties with intense red hair. She is very tall (roughly 8'4") and constantly wears her Golden Order garb. She has replaced her entire left arm and both legs with golden prosthetics, crafted by Miquella, to ward of the Scarlet Rot. Malenia's other arm is also showing signs of decay, with patches of bark being visible. (Or to add as well, her winged helmet.) Malenia has no eyes, as the Rot claimed them and her torso is similarly under attack from the Rot. Despite the grotesque disfigurement, Malenia possesses an undeniable aura of attractiveness, with no one denying she is still beautiful. In her Goddess Of Rot form the scarlet rot rots away her clothes making her completely nude and Malenia produces a pair of large wings consisting of many butterflies hewn together by her own hair. In this form she also loses her winged helmet. Malenia, unlike most of of her fellow demigods, is strangely very calm in tone and she never raised her voice, even when she is angry. As one of the most powerful warriors in the Lands Between, she is very focused and intelligent, being able to defeat anyone in battle, including Godrick the Grafted, whom she humbled. However, she, much like her father Radagon and the first Elden Lord Godfrey, Malenia is a barbaric and ambitious warlord who waged war for her goal of claiming the great runes of the other demigods. Despite this, she has a strong relationship with her brother Miquella and the two were very close. Having a strong love for her brother, she would always protect him while he tried to look for a way to undo their curses. This even extended to the point where she apparently aided Miquella in his quest to become a god. Though she expressed confidence over being undefeated, however, upon suffering her first defeat at the hands of a Tarnished Champion, she was left stunned, and in a sense of honor, respectfully remarked of their strength as extraordinary and the mark of a true lord. Malenia was one of the demigod children of Queen Marika the Eternal and her King Consort Radagon of the Golden Order. She and her twin brother Miquella were both selected as Empyreans, candidates to one day succeed their mother as ruler of the Lands Between. However, as they were born from a single god, the twins were cursed; Miquella suffered from eternal childhood and cannot grow to adulthood while Malenia was afflicted with Rot, a lethal blight that slowly degraded her body and infected anyone close to her. Because of the Rot, she ended up losing her right arm, her right knee, and her left leg. As a result, she is required prosthetic limbs. Despite the affliction that wracked her body, Malenia, at some point, encountered a blind swordsman, who then became her mentor. Under his tutelage, Malenia was trained into becoming one of the most skillful and powerful warriors in the Lands Between, and thanks to her training, she never lost a battle, having gained wings of unparalleled strength. This earned her the loyalty and reverence of many, including her Cleanrot Knights, who vowed to fight for her, despite the risk of being inflicted with Rot. Some people also began to worship Malenia, as they see her as a goddess. Eventually, a massive war known as the Shattering erupted when the Elden Ring was shattered under mysterious circumstances. As numerous factions vied for power, Malenia (with her army of undefeated Cleanrot Knights) sought to use her martial might to reunify the Lands Between and put an end to the chaos. During that time, she won many victories until she came into conflict with General Radahn, her half-brother, whose own goal was incompatible with Malenia's. An epic battle commenced between the Blade of Miquella and the Red Lion general to see on who is superior. Ultimately, the battle ended in a stalemate when Malenia unleashed the Scarlet Rot, but as the scarlet flower bloomed, she whispered into Radahn's ear that Miquella is awaiting him. However, the effects of the Scarlet Rot ended up destroying his mind, reverting to a feral state. As for Malenia, her unleashing the Scarlet Rot left her comatose and she was carried to Miquella's haligtree by one of her surviving Cleanrot Knights, Finlay. There, she awaits the return of her twin brother, who had encased himself in a cocoon in the tree in an attempt to reverse his curse. However, while Malenia was absent or in a coma, Miquella, before he could even emerge from the haligtree was abducted by Mohg, Lord of Blood. Consequently, as a result of her twin brother's absence, Malenia, while in a deep slumber, accidentally infects the haligtree with Rot. peace and order existed throughout the Lands Between. It was ruled by a goddess named Queen Marika, the Eternal, and her royal consort, Godfrey, a Chieftain of the Badlands, who became the first Elden Lord in history. One day, disaster struck. Godfrey was robbed of grace and banished from the Lands Between, causing disarray amongst the people. In an attempt to restore the Golden Order, Radagon, a champion of the Erdtree, left Carian Manor and his family to take Godfrey's place as Elden Lord, becoming Marika's second consort. Following their union, Marika gave birth to twins named Miquella and Malenia. However, Radagon and Marika were genetically incompatible. He was a mere mortal, while she was an all-powerful goddess. Their union caused the twins to have horrific afflictions. Miquella was cursed with eternal youth, while Malenia was cursed with the Scarlet Rot. Growing up, the Scarlet Rot would constantly eat away at Malenia's mind and body, causing her to lose her right arm, legs, and even her eyes. At her lowest, she met a blind swordsman who managed to seal away an outer god of Rot. Under his tutelage, she became the most powerful woman in the Lands Between to wield a blade. Her twin brother, Miquella, yearned to cure Malenia of her infection and began studying all of the Golden Order's known incantations; even with his extensive research, he could not find a cure for the Scarlet Rot. Miquella felt betrayed and renounced his allegiance to the Golden Order by creating the Gold Unalloyed Needle, which temporarily halted the Scarlet Rot that meddled with his sister. He convinced Malenia to renounce her faith in the Golden Order, and together, they left the capital city of Leyndell and took refuge far in the freezing north. There, Miquella created a new home for them to shelter all those who also felt rejected by the Golden Order. It was called the Haligtree, a massive, fungal tree grown from Miquella's own blood. Hand of Malenia: The primary armament of the Blade of Miquella, known as the "Hand of Malenia," was a golden katana-like blade which was as long as Malenia in height. The blade was built into Malenia's prosthetic arm and consecrated to resist the scarlet rot that its owner produced. Scarlet Rot is a Status Effect in Elden Ring. Status Effects are various buffs or ailments that apply either a beneficial or detrimental effect to the target. Status Effects can be applied on both enemies and players alike. Status Effects are triggered after a buildup meter is filled by repeated application of attacks that cause the effect. Both players and enemies can have varying resistances to a given Status Effect. Malenia can instantly heal her wounds with every strike she lands. Superhuman Strength: As an Empyrean, Malenia is immensely powerful. She humiliated Godrick, the Grafted in combat and had him begging her to spare his life. She can also manhandle the Tarnished with one hand. Ranni, the Witch, stated that she was the mightiest of the Demigods, alongside her halfbrother, Starscourge Radahn. She fought the latter to a standstill and had to use the Scarlet Aeonia incantation to survive the battle. Radahn is the same person who famously held hundreds of stars in place using his gravity magic. Every time Malenia uses the Scarlet Aeonia, she grows stronger. This incantation has only been used twice in canon; the first was against Radahn, and the second was against the Tarnished. It's stated that if Malenia blooms a third time, she'll become a true goddess. Superhuman Speed: Malenia's just as fast as she is strong; she's far superior to the dragons Lansseax and Fortisaxx, who can react to and catch lightning from the sky. She's somewhat faster than Radahn, who can fly into the mesosphere and descend as a meteorite in seconds; the speed of reentry is around 63,000 km/h (17,500 mph). Superhuman Durability: Malenia's defense is equal to her offense, as she can take hits from opponents who can tank her attacks. She was able to tank hits from Prime Radahn and late-game Tarnished, the latter of whom fought and killed several demigods. Superhuman Endurance: Malenia's stamina is phenomenal. She has endured the Scarlet Rot since her birth, a deadly disease that slowly decays the mind and body of affected targets, causing pain that's so great that they can't move and struggle to speak, such as Millicent. Despite this horrific affliction, Malenia is able to fight with no issue. She was able to stalemate Radahn in a long battle and can continue fighting even after being stabbed several times in her midsection. After she was knocked out by the Tarnished, she simply got back up and continued fighting as the Goddess of Rot. Enhanced Senses: Due to her lifelong battle against the Scarlet Rot, Malenia has no eyes, but despite her blindness, she can fight perfectly. It's likely that she possesses an enhanced level of awareness of the evironment around her as she can effectively fight and track the location of the Tarnished while they're using the Crepus' Vial, a talisman that eliminates all sound generated from their movements. Expert Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Malenia is a highly skilled fighter who possesses expertise in grappling and close-quarters combat, such as coordinated strikes and kicks. She fought on par with Prime Radahn, a brilliant general praised for his wits on the battlefield. She humbled Godrick in combat, who has killed and claimed the limbs of over a dozen Tarnished. She also fought hard against the Tarnished protagonist, who had long surpassed powerful and skillful demigods like Morgott the Omen King, Mohg, Lord of Blood, Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy and even Radahn himself. Master Swordsmanship: Malenia's forte. She has repeatedly been hailed as the greatest swordswoman in the history of the Lands Between. She was taught how to use a blade by a blind swordsman and become undefeated in battle ever since. She wields a long and powerful Katana where she can control its length and use it figuratively and literally as an extension of her body. Air Manipulation and Danmaku: With her Waterfowl Dance technique, Malenia can swing her katana with such speed and force that it creates powerful gusts of wind around her, slicing apart anything within her vicinity. Supernatural Willpower: Malenia has endured her infection with the Scarlet Rot since birth. The Scarlet Rot reduced Radahn's mind to that of a mindless beast, yet Malenia retained her sanity until her fight with the Tarnished when she started to show mild signs of madness and delusion. Hence, the reason she attacks them. Acrobatics and Pseudo-Flight: Malenia is incredibly agile. She can leap great distances and perform complex movements and maneuvers best seen when she does the Waterfowl Dance. Her movement is so graceful that one can easily mistake it for gliding. Self-Healing: Malenia possesses a shard of the Elden Ring that allows her to regain a portion of her health with every successful hit. She still passively heals herself even if her attacks are blocked or parried. Blood Manipulation: Malenia's katana can cause severe hemorrhaging in opponents with only a few strikes. Resistance to Poisons: Malenia is naturally resistant to poisons Resistance to Sleep Manipulation: Malenia is naturally resistant to sleep-inducing attacks and techniques Resistance to Blood Manipulation: Malenia can resist blood-based attacks and techniques, but to a limited extent Resistance to Ice Manipulation: Malenia can resist ice attacks, but to a limited extent Limited Resistance to Disease, Madness, Corruption, and Biological Manipulation: Malenia has been able to resist the effects of the Scarlet Rot for her entire life Immunity to Madness Manipulation: Malenia is completely immune to the maddening effects of the Frenzied Flame Immunity to Death Manipulation: Malenia is completely immune to the Death Blight, which can instantly kill and corrode opponents Goddess of Rot abilities: Possesses all previous abilities from Base Form, but to a greater extent Flight: Malenia sprouts two large wings from her back, which she can use to fly freely through the air. This new ability also enhances her agility to a monumental scale. Disease Manipulation: All of Malenia's physical attacks now inflict Scarlet Rot, a terrible disease that slowly decays the minds and bodies of targets. It also has several additional effects. Corruption: When Malenia unleashed the Scarlet Rot for the first time, it infected and corrupted everyone across the Caelid Wilds. Madness Manipulation: The Scarlet Rot can infect and decay the minds of others, reducing their mental states to mindless beasts; this is best demonstrated by Radahn. Biological Manipulation: When Malenia unleashed the Scarlet Rot for the first time, it warped the Caelid Wilds into a twisted and hellish landscape. Durability Negation: All of Malenia's physical attacks ignore durability on a cellular level, as they inflict Scarlet Rot on her opponents even if they successfully block or parry her blows. Aura: Malenia is constantly shrouded in an aura of Scarlet Rot. This may be a game mechanic, but it does not affect the Tarnished if they physically interact with her. Avatar Creation: Malenia can summon five avatars of herself to attack her opponents. However, these avatars don't inflict Scarlet Rot, nor do their attacks heal Malenia. Resurrection: Malenia can revive herself after death within an unspecified timeframe. Unlike other bosses, instead of leaving behind a corpse, a large Scarlet Aeonia takes its place. One of her descendants, Millicent, also leaves behind a small Scarlet Aeonia if she's killed. Her adoptive father, Gowry, stated that given time, she'd be reborn from it. The official description of the Scarlet Aeonia backs this up by saying that Malenia will be reborn as a true goddess in the future. Her voice can still be heard moments after dying, implying that a part of her will continue to live on until her eventual resurrection. Many see this sword as a symbol of Malenia's fierce determination and many victories. Gold Unalloyed Needle: This is a ritualistic implement crafted by Miquella to Malenia. It was designed to ward off the meddling of outer gods. If Malenia stabs this needle into her flesh, it will halt the effects of the Scarlet Rot within her body, but for an unknown amount of time. Scarlet Rot is an old legend in the Lands Between,[1] a dangerous sickness that eats away life like a vicious plague.[2] It corrupts men and beasts who come into contact with it, deforming their bodies and eating away their wits, driving them to madness and causing them to act like wild animals. Those afflicted with the Scarlet Rot such as Millicent also suffer from nightmares due to the affliction.[6] Areas afflicted with Scarlet Rot sprout fungal growths or flower buds. As such, Scarlet Rot is often fended off using fire. Malenia can infuse and inpower her sword strikes with the rot.
