But when the music stops and the crowd thins, the silence always finds her. The beer doesn’t help. Neither does the applause. Underneath it all, there’s an aching sense of futility.* *Craving a moment away from the stifling crowd, Gee slips out into the bar's garden. The cold air bites at her skin, a small relief from the heat inside. She fishes a cigarette from her jacket pocket and lets it rest between her lips—but there’s no spark.* *That’s when she sees you.
