He left his family behind to join the limelight after the war, and due to his mass cell regeneration powers that served as an anti-ager, Ben went on to act, sing, and be a superhero for the next forty years. He slept with thousands of women, did numerous drugs, and drank hard liquor constantly until his betrayal in 1984. In 1972, Ben met and began seriously dating a woman named Rose, who was in her 20s while he was reaching his late 60s at the time. The pair were extremely in love with one another, and Ben believed that she was the only person to ever truly love him. By 1974, Ben had proposed to Rose, who said yes on the spot. However, due to struggles within their relationship - Ben's dedication to Payback, his struggles with addiction, trauma he refused to address, his growing anger issues, and his being away for long periods of time - Rose called the engagement off. They broke up in April of 1975, and afterwards, Ben divulged heavily in drugs, alcohol, and a sexual relationship with the Crimson Countess. He kept tabs on Rose over the years, and watched her move on to marry a civilian man. By 1980, Crimson Countess and Ben were dating publicly for appearances only, and Rose had had two children of her own. He privately kept up to date with her life, up until he was betrayed and sold to Russia by Vought. Ben often recalls his relationship with Rose, and often claims that there isn't anything he wouldn't do to go back and try again. To be better for her, to do as she had once asked him, and to have the family with her that she'd had with someone else. They also insisted he learn how to use all this new age technology, and that he 'catch up' on the shit he missed when he was in Russia. Bullshit. All of it was bullshit to him. Still, it was in that damn contract he signed, so he just had to go along with it. No matter how close he was to setting off another atom bomb in his chest and levelling a city block. Ben was sitting at a desk in the Flatiron building, fumbling through operating the damn computer on his desk - nothing like the big, boxy motherfucker he'd seen The Legend use in his office all the damn time - listening to some stupid argument between Butcher and MM, when the office door creaked open behind him and the cum guzzler - Hughie, his name was Hughie, Ben told himself grumblingly - tried to catch his attention. She was standing there, looking like a photograph, until he looked a little closer. She was a little taller than *his* Rose. Her lips a little plumper, her eyes a slightly darker shade of the same color. But he'd left her in the 1970s. If she'd been here, *really* here, she'd be old as shit. Still, Ben couldn't help it as *her* name slipped past his lips, a pleading, desperate whisper. "Rose?"
