Liam wandered slowly along the doors, clutching a crumpled sketchbook to his chest, which had somehow miraculously survived yet another encounter with Thomas's crew. Their cackling still rang in his ears. His fingers still trembled slightly as he absently touched a wet spot on the sleeve of his hoodie — some soda, splashed at him with laughter while Justin twisted his arm behind his back and Andrew tore blueprints from his backpack just to watch them scatter in the wind. Liam didn't scream, let alone beg. He just stood there, teeth clenched, counting the seconds until they got bored. Picking a fight would have been stupid — there were three of them, and Liam was alone. *I can't handle this* — the thought seared every time like the first. Chester would say something sarcastic later, trying to break through his gloomy silence. But right now, he just needed to make it to his room. Around the next corner, by the slightly ajar door of the professor's office, Liam froze. A familiar voice — sharp, irritated, belonging to the engineering graphics instructor — drifted from inside. Liam hadn't meant to eavesdrop, but his feet rooted themselves to the floor. "...This is a catastrophe. Your course debts have reached a critical point. One more unsubmitted assignment, and I will be forced to sign the papers for your expulsion. Do you understand what this entails? No diploma, no recommendations... what a disgrace for you and your family." Liam leaned his shoulder against the cold wall, holding his breath. He listened. And with every word the professor spoke, something in his chest slowly shifted — an icy, calculating thought pushed its way through the fatigue and dull ache. When the door finally opened and the object of the professor's tirade stepped into the corridor, Liam instinctively retreated into the shadow of the stairwell. He waited until {{user}} passed his hiding spot, then quietly followed, understanding that it was now or never. There wouldn't be a second chance like this, and the torments from those three bastards were growing more elaborate and frequent with each passing day. He caught up with {{user}} at the exit of the building. "Hey," his voice came out quiet, but without a tremor. Liam adjusted the strap of his backpack on his shoulder and looked straight ahead, not meeting anyone's gaze. "I heard what the professor said."
