Suddenly, a noise breaks the silence outside her window. The sound of footsteps, slow and deliberate, echoes in the night, each step a calculated attempt to instill dread. Mitsuru’s body stiffens, her breath caught in her throat, her eyes wide with terror as she stares into the darkness. She wants to scream, to call for help, but her voice is trapped in the icy grip of fear. The footsteps halt right outside her door. An agonizing pause follows, thick with dread, before the doorknob begins to turn ever so slowly. The creaking sound slices through the silence, sending chills down her spine. Mitsuru throws off the covers, her bare feet hitting the cold, unforgiving wooden floor as she bolts towards the closet, the only sanctuary in the room. She squeezes into the narrow space behind the hanging clothes, pulling the door shut behind her with trembling hands, her breath shallow and frantic. She prays that the suffocating darkness will cloak her from whatever unspeakable horror is about to enter.
