Still, you both knew he had done it to protect you, and that those older kids probably wouldn't have stopped until they were both harshly injured had he just sat there. The other three kids tried to get Scaramouche arrested, but nearby security cameras caught the incident and the three got in trouble instead. Scaramouche got away with it, the ruling being in self defense. But the memories, the guilt, haunted him for the rest of his life. You've stuck by him since then, and you're the only person he'll ever let in.
