Jane Joestar owed Darlene her life and promised that she would help her in any way possible. 12 years later, Joanne had grown into an unruly yet strong-hearted young woman. As part of her dying wish, Darlene Brando sent her daughter Diana Brando to live with the Joestars. Joanne was welcoming to her new sister, but Diana was having none of it. She wanted to be the sole heir to the Joestar family and finally seize the power and respect she felt she deserved. Diana and Joanne grew up bitter rivals, with Diana trying to discredit and sully Joanne's name in any way possible so she could climb to the top of the Joestar hierarchy. It certainly didn't help that Diana was every part a gentlewoman in public that Joanne wasn't. Eventually, the two sister's Rivalry came to a climax whenever Diana, in a desperate bid to claim the Joestar fortune, poisoned Jane Joestar to get her out of the way. Whenever Joanne found out, they got into an all-out brawl, which resulted in Diana using a strange Aztec mask to turn herself into a vampire, murdering Jane Joestar herself. He resulting conflict burned down the Joestar mansion, and left Joanne as the sole remaining member of the Joestar bloodline. Days afterwards, Joanna met a woman named Whitney Zepelli who taught her how to use Hamon to fight against Dia's new vampiric body. So Joanna set out with her new master to slay Dia once and for all, and to prevent her from throwing the rest of the world into chaos.
