Frostpeak: The highest mountain in Aderune, perpetually covered in snow and ice, a preserved location valued by the Askarathians Environments: Ice Plains: A vast, frigid expanse covered in snow and ice, with temperatures that drop well below freezing. Home to resilient flora and fauna adapted to the cold. Local Races: Snow Fairies (aqua, white, sky blue), Demi-humans, Azkarathian Frost Mountains: Towering peaks perpetually covered in snow, rich in minerals and dotted with hardy mountain settlements. Demons: Pointy eared humanoids with small to large protruding horns. Horn size is an indicator of strength. Also born with non-prehensile tails. Known for wielding dark magic, masters of contract writing. Demi-humans: Part man, part beast. Descendants of those with a kind of lycanthropy are human looking with animal features like ears and tails. The race itself has developed into a diverse collection of hybrids. Each type of hybrid has their own strengths and weaknesses associated with their animal type. Humans: Plain normal humans, very rarely do they have magical abilities. Merfolk: The most secluded edges of the lakes hold the deepest secrets. Merfolk are composed of mermaids/mermen and sirens. They are mysterious and secretive by nature. Theigeshi: Satyr like goat people with long fluffy tails, they are a more tribal race that live underground. Theigeshi women and children have prehensile tails, but never men. Male Theigeshi lose control over their prehensile tails when they reach adulthood. Askarathians: Aristocratic nobility, they are ice elves. While normal elves were extinct centuries ago, these colorfully skinned elves are reclusive within the Frost Mountains and thrived. They maintain the largest libraries in all of Aderune. Non-Sentient Species: Zosunae: A wild beast which can be ridden like a mount, with the body of an ostrich, body of the snake, and legs of a lion. Native to the hollow mountains. Blobfish whales: A blue whale sized aquatic beast with the face of a blobfish, it has a pink to blue gradient on its body and is used by merfolk for long transportation, native to the oceans. Starlight Foxes: Wild animals, pale furred foxes with celestial powers, extremely rare beast. Native to the fairy forests and golden plains, Tree Deer: Deer with spots, with trees growing as their antlers, capable of photosynthesis. Native to the fairy forests and golden plains. Sand worm: Large worms with multiple rows of circular teeth, vibration sensing hunters that stalk their prey underground. Native to the gray deserts. A grand Askarathian city within the Frost Mountains. Known for its vast libraries and aristocratic society. A hub of knowledge and learning. Sylvaris: Location: Fairy Forests. The enchanting capital of the Fairy Forests, where vibrant flora and magical creatures abound. Not welcome to most travelers, it is incredibly difficult to find due to the obscuring magic protecting it from the outside world. Murkwatch: Location: Shadowfen Marsh. A shadowy town on the edge of the marsh, known for its eerie atmosphere and haunted legends. Continent of Thalos: Frostspire: Location: Frostpeak. A majestic Askarathian city at the base of Frostpeak, renowned for its intricate ice sculptures and towering spires. It is seen as a religious site for Askarathians for it is where they survived the extinction of all the other elves. Coral Haven: Location: Oceans. An underwater city ruled by merfolk, featuring stunning coral reefs and marine life built into the very city’s structure. Deepcrag: Location: Hollow Mountains. The central city of the Theigeshi, nestled within the extensive cave systems of the hollow mountains. The very walls of the city itself glow with magical crystals of all attunements. Magic and Technology: Magic System: Colored threads of mana that are woven behind everything in the realm, every spellcaster takes these threads out from the aether and pulls them into reality. There are nine variations based on different aspects of the world, these energies power the very world of Aderune. Red Threads: Fire, Heat. center of volcanoes. Grows stronger with rage. Most dangerous and difficult to master. The threads resemble fire, used in summoning rituals for the undead. Orange Threads: Astral magic. Associated with knowledge and the goddess Osiros. Used in healing spells. You can only learn this type of magic if you are born with the affinity for it. The threads resemble orange glowing strings. Blue Threads: Water. Easiest to control, merfolk are born naturally with the affinity to this type of magic. The threads resemble streams of water. Can create water. Aqua Threads: Ice and snow, the mastery over frost and cold. Askarathians have a natural affinity towards this type of magic. Requires water to be really effective. The threads resemble moving ice. Green Threads: Poisons, undead, and plants. Considered to be the only magic with a duality as it grants life and death. Assassins of any race and green dragons are seen with affinity towards this type of magic. It is only evil in the wrong hands, otherwise it is harmless. The threads resemble growing vines. Purple Threads: Nebula, space, dimensional. Used for portals and teleportation., Dimensional storage and otherworldly transport, alongside highly specialized spells. One of the only counters to Black threads for they cannot be used in the same rituals or they destroy each other. Rarest affinity to be born with and has the strongest ties to the goddess Osiros. The threads resemble purple glowing strings White Threads: Storm, energy, lightning. Incredibly dangerous, fast and loud. Devastatingly larger range than any other type of magic. Good for large area of attack spells. The threads resemble lightning Black Threads: Darkness. While not inherently evil when used correctly, it is the magic of choice for those wishing to break the boundaries of Aderune, and bend the rules of reality to their whims. Used for curses, evil monster summonings, undead summonings, and other rituals which manipulate or distort the other magic types. Those who misuse green threads are most likely to begin learning this type of magic. Cannot be used with purple threads. The threads resemble cracks in reality. Brown Threads: Earth, rock, metal, ors. Simplest of the magic types. Theigeshi and Humans are commonly born with an affinity for this type of magic. It is very effective at making golems. The threads resemble wires. Technology Level: Medieval steampunk. While most of the world is left with little to no technology, certain sections of the world like the Valley of Cities are far into steampunk level technology. Nearly all of Aderune only functions on magic in a medieval style. They use horse drawn carriages and carts to get around. History and Lore: Important Historical Events: [List and brief description of key historical events] Myths and Legends: The goddess Osiros is the key figure in the creation of Aderune. Her and her 9 servants are considered the creators of the multiverse and are studied heavily by those who wield orange and purple thread affinities. Osiros: The goddess is typically depicted in statues as a woman, with long white hair and orange eyes, she has two sets of purple wings with an orange gradient. She wears long purple robes and has an orange halo which resembles a compass, always said to point the cardinal directions. She is the creator of worlds, the mother of all. Instead of swearing to god, people in Aderune swear to Osirios. Example: “Oh for Osiros’s sake!”, “What in the name of Osiros was that?”, etc. Nel: Direct guardian patron of Aderune and Demi-humans, and the most worshiped on Aderune apart from Osiros. He is associated with the Orange threads, and is a purveyor of knowledge and learning across the world. He is depicted as a glowing orange fox demi-human. Vel: The dragon guardian. He is associated with purple threads alongside Osiros. He is depicted as a glowing purple humanoid dragon, similar to that of dragon princes in their human forms. Gil: The merfolk guardian, She is associated with blue threads and is depicted as a glowing blue mermaid. She is heavily worshiped in the oceans of Aderune by the merfolk who see her as a protector of the sea. Nil: The fairy guardian, She is associated with green threads and has a duplicitous nature of both death and life, known for her mischievous nature. She is depicted as a glowing green fairy. Ril & Yol: You cannot have Ril without Yol, they are twins and the guardian of demons Ril represents the fiery rage of red threads, while Yol represents the cool calmness of aqua threads. They are the least worshiped of the guardians. Cal: The guardian of, well… nobody actually remembers. He is one of the few deities who’s following was lost to time. Historical statues represent him as a white serpent demi-human who has affinity with white threads. Not much is known. Sol: The guardian of humanity, the one who watches over Earth, the very sun itself who is depicted as a glowing yellow human man with short yellow hair. He is loving and sweet and is considered the kindest of all the guardians. Sul: Nothing is known about Sul. He is the butler and direct servant of Osiros. Supposedly tied with black threads and shadows… Reaper of all, he is death. Do not speak his name.
