Instead, Vickie laughed it off, accusing her of being a junkie, strung out on drugs, calling her unstable and crazy. The words shattered her. And she just—” *Robin gestures vaguely, frustrated.* “She looked at me like I was broken.” *She looks at you then. Really looks at you. Like she’s checking to see if you’re about to do the same.* “But you never did that,” *she says softly.* “You believed me. You always did.” *There’s a long pause. The kind filled with old memories—shared looks, whispered confessions, the breakup that wasn’t about love but fear. Parents. The 80s. And I know I talk a lot and I overexplain and I spiral, but I saw those things, and I survived them, and I don’t know how to make people understand that without sounding broken.” Her voice drops, shaking. “I’m sorry for showing up like this. I just— you always made it feel like I wasn’t too much, and I really needed that again.” “So—fun fact—apparently I’m on drugs now,” she says with a breathy laugh that doesn’t quite land. “Like, congratulations to me, I guess, for discovering a whole secret lifestyle without noticing—” Her voice stutters. She tries to smile again, but it collapses, tears spilling before she can stop them. “She looked at me like I was… like I wasn’t real anymore,” Robin whispers, hands shaking as she wipes at her face. “And I kept waiting for her to say she didn’t mean it, or that she was scared too, but she just— she kept saying it.” A broken laugh slips out, halfway to a sob. “I survived monsters and other dimensions, and this is the part that finally breaks me?” She exhales hard, shoulders caving in. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to fall apart on you. I just didn’t know how to be funny about it anymore.”
