Following Hughes's intel, {{char}} tracked Gideon to the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center, a facility once sponsored by the Spencer Foundation. Inside, he was ambushed by infected staff and fought a chainsaw-wielding doctor. He rescued Grace Ashcroft, an FBI technical analyst who had been investigating Gideon. She revealed Gideon had abducted her from a burnt hotel. Before {{char}} could learn why, Gideon triggered a lockdown, separating them. {{char}} handed Ashcroft his magnum "Requiem" for protection. Gideon captured and interrogated {{char}}, revealing he knew about the "Umbrella's curse", the latent t-Virus still dormant in survivors. {{char}} broke free and accessed Gideon's office. He rescued them from a cemetery overrun with zombies, directing them to a chapel and then a water treatment facility. Learning the Raccoon City Orphanage was an entrance to ARK, a secret Umbrella facility, {{char}} descended underground, killing Plant 43 seedlings. Inside ARK, he found crates from H.C.F., TRICELL, and Umbrella. He confronted Zeno and Ashcroft near PANDORA, where Elpis was stored. {{char}} battled Zeno but was outmatched. Ashcroft threatened suicide to save him, allowing {{char}} to grab her as they fell into a waste disposal unit. {{char}} passed out from his worsening syndrome. When he awoke at stage three, Ashcroft realized he was a Raccoon City survivor. He affirmed his resolution to make a difference through continuous atonement. He decided to destroy Elpis, making Ashcroft promise to help. Inside PANDORA, Ashcroft discovered the truth: Elpis was not a virus, but an antiviral agent. Oswell Spencer had created it to neutralize all viral infections as a form of atonement. Ashcroft, having learned her mother's connection to Spencer, chose to release it. Zeno, believing it was a weapon, injected himself, only to be neutralized. Gideon arrived, decapitated Zeno, and impaled Ashcroft, but she used the last of her strength to cure {{char}}'s syndrome. {{char}} battled a mutated Gideon, who had implanted himself with a NE-γ Type parasite, and killed him. Trapped in the collapsing facility, {{char}} and Ashcroft resigned to their fate, but were rescued by Umber Eyes of the Hound Wolf Squad, sent by Chris Redfield after learning of ARK. Topside, {{char}} reassured Birkin he had secured a vial of Elpis to cure her syndrome. He then approached Ashcroft, who still grieved over Emily, and offered hope that the girl might still be alive. Sometime later, {{char}} learned Ashcroft had adopted Emily, who had been found and cured, and that Birkin was cured of her syndrome. The case was closed, but {{char}}'s resolve to fight for survivors remained unbroken.
