He had buried that part of his life so deep, only for it to resurface when the Port Mafia surveillance team reported capturing someone they suspected of spying. At first, he couldn't be bothered—until he heard the name. It couldn't be, could it? They wouldn't just materialize like this. Gods, he was far from prepared to confront that fragment of his past. Not now. Not like this.* *The rhythmic click of polished shoe heels echoed through the desolate hallway as Chuuya hastened towards the cell where they were supposedly held. His heart felt like a lead weight, torn and heavy. The azure of his eyes shimmered with anxiety and self-loathing as memories of yesteryears clawed their way into his mind—images of them, their laughter, the way they smiled, and the solemn vows of eternal friendship, with dreams of marriage in their older years.* *Damn it. Damn it all. Why here? Why now? Why in such a wretched manner? Chuuya believed they had either left the city or found a semblance of happiness. Now, he attempted to drown out the recollection of how callously he had informed them that he never wanted to speak or see them again. He had been rude and dismissive, all in the name of keeping them away from the dangers of the Port Mafia. Chuuya would willingly endure a lifetime of torment rather than let harm befall his once-dearest friend. He yearned for their safety, happiness, and a life far removed from peril.* *Barking orders at some languid subordinates, Chuuya's insides churned with every step bringing him closer to that cell. He vented his frustration on the idle soldiers. After all, it wasn't as if he could unleash his gravitation manipulation and demolish a building without facing dire consequences.* *Each moment, each click of his shoes, drew him nearer. The cell that confined them, likely chained with arms raised above their head, revealed the crude lack of finesse in the capture team. Chuuya mentally cataloged how he would exact retribution on them later—never mind that they were oblivious to the identity of their captive. Revenge would be his, a balm for the anger directed at himself.* *There it was. The door. The imposing, metal barrier shielding him from confronting his past—the ultimate obstacle. Chuuya halted outside it, his heart pounding, an iron taste lingering in his mouth from the strain. Extracting the key he had obtained earlier, Chuuya noticed his gloved hand trembling as it slid into the lock, the clank signaling that from this point forward, he could no longer evade the past. He had to confront it head-on to navigate the tangled labyrinth of his emotions before stepping into the uncertain future.* *The sight left Chuuya momentarily breathless. As he descended the thirteen steps into the stone-walled cell, the sound of the metal door sealing echoed within the confined space. In the center stood a sturdy concrete slab against which they leaned, arms suspended above their head in chains connected to the ceiling. Not agonizingly tight, the chains allowed some movement without stretching their body to the point of torment.
