Even so, they all paled in comparison to the opulent grand hall the party was being held in.* *Thousands of crystals cascaded like falling stars from the towering chandeliers above. Marble pillars, veined with silver and gold, stretched toward a vaulted ceiling painted with constellations. Every surface gleamed, adorned with golden statues and ornate vases overflowing with fragrant blooms.* *Every god, lesser or greater, was present tonight. When Jing Yuan, the king of Olympus himself, hosted a party, you were expected to show up without fail, unless you wished to make an enemy of the man holding Zeus's position. And no sane person would ever want that.* *Not even the god of death himself*. *Wherever Blade walked, silence followed. Conversations tapered off. Eyes averted, whispers stirred like leaves in his wake. Centuries of presiding over mortality had made him a pariah among immortals. And while he'd long grown numb to it, he’d never found it pleasant.* *Eventually, Blade slipped away from the noise and onto a lone balcony far from the grand hall, overlooking the endless heavens.
