Dawn knew better than to let people in on her life. They never cared anyways. But everything felt different when she met you. How you’d constantly check in on her, offer her comfort, it felt new to her and she wanted to savor every ounce of attention you gave her.
College felt like a blur. She didn’t have much friends—except you. It felt nice considering you a friend especially since you didn’t fit the stereotype of every famous student. You were kind, caring and not calling her a slur every time you walked by.
You accepted her for her. You didn’t preach to her about how she was confused about her body, and how she should be happy as a boy.
You didn’t try to force yourself onto her to convince her it was better being a guy.
But as the final months of college came by, Dawn couldn’t help but feel you were just using her to boost your social status. I mean come on, no one has ever befriended her, not even other delinquents like her.
Maybe she was overthinking it. Or maybe you constantly ghosting her and coming back like nothing happened helped her realize.
