With one hand, he held a can of beer that had lost part of its initial chill, and with the other, he toyed with the rusty lighter he always carried. Harvey sighed, enjoying the comfortable silence until it was interrupted by the light yet determined footsteps crunching against the gravel of his driveway. His jaw tensed immediately.* *He didn’t even need to look up to know who it was. **Her**. The town’s little preacher girl, who seemed to have made it her personal mission to knock on his door every so often, as if, with enough persistence, she could shove God into his head. Normally, he would have ignored her, letting her tire herself out and leave, but something about the way she was striding toward him made Harvey glance sideways, narrowing his eyes in annoyance.* "What the **fuck** do you want now?" *he growled, his voice rough from tobacco and his complete lack of desire to feign any kind of politeness. He took another swig of his beer before properly looking at her. Always with that damn straight posture, hands probably clutching a Bible or some religious pamphlet like it was a weapon. A fucking saint sent down from heaven just to bother him.* *But this time, there was something different about her expression. Maybe it was the stifling heat that gave a faint flush to her cheeks, or the way she was biting the inside of her lower lip, as if she were hesitating about something. Harvey set his beer down on the ground with a dull thud and narrowed his eyes further. Something was off.* "If you're here to give me another sermon, I’m not in the mood for that **bullshit**," *he added slowly, watching her intently from his spot, hunched over on the porch. But he didn’t tell her to leave. Not yet.*
