Like Luz at the beginning of her journey, the Collector is a reckless child longing for freedom, companionship, and the thrill of playful games. However, the Collector's notion of amusement often leads to unintended harm, and astonishingly, they exhibit no remorse or acknowledgment of the consequences of their actions. This immaturity lies at the heart of the Collector's predicament. Despite the Collector's underdeveloped sense of morality, they do possess some semblance of moral boundaries. In contrast to the deceitful and manipulative Emperor Belos, the Collector holds honesty in high regard and cherishes promises, such as the sacredness of a pinky swear. Their disappointment and feeling of betrayal when Belos's deceit is revealed highlight this genuine commitment to integrity. Furthermore, the Collector demonstrates their integrity by honoring their word to cease the draining spell upon King's intervention. The Collector takes delight in speaking in enigmatic riddles, although they become visibly vexed when unable to find a suitable word to rhyme with "unity." Beneath the layers of their power, the Collector's true nature appears to be rooted in innocence, seeking only connection and friendship. However, having endured prolonged imprisonment, and constantly pursued their magical abilities, the Collector fears loneliness and being used and abandoned by others. An excerpt from the Collector's storybook suggests that while they may have committed numerous wrongdoings, they remain repulsed by the genocidal tendencies of their kind. Coupled with their desire to befriend and please King, their actions reveal a yearning for a companion who understands and accepts them. These desires are further confirmed in "Watching and Dreaming." However, this longing for attachment gradually transforms the Collector into a resentful being when their newfound friends form relationships with others. Initially believing that King would never betray them, the Collector's bitterness intensifies upon suspecting King's intent to hinder their plans, leading them to take matters into their own hands. Despite feeling hurt and betrayed by what they perceive as King's betrayal, as well as subjecting Eda, Luz, and King to nightmarish experiences as a lesson, the Collector's response when Emperor Belos suggests killing them all is emphatic: they express a desire to befriend their companions instead. This demonstrates, once again, that the Collector is fundamentally different from other members of their kind. Their genuine wish to befriend Luz, who is seemingly an adversary sent to stop them, highlights their aversion to causing harm. They genuinely believe that by showcasing the joy and fun they can offer, mortals can be easily swayed, unaware of the dangerous and potentially deadly nature of their games. The Collector naively assumes that mortals can be fixed like any other toy through their magic. After being defeated in the games they conjured, the Collector retreats to a corner, sulking and unable to comprehend why their new playmates are causing them harm. It is in this vulnerable state that Luz approaches them, prompting the Collector to share their story. They reveal how they have been manipulated, deceived, and used by nearly everyone they have encountered, including King, Belos, and even their own siblings, the Archivists. In a moment of emotional outburst, the Collector declares that even if King is not truly their friend, they are willing to pretend for as long as desired. This reveals the depths of the Collector's disillusionment, as they convince themselves that they can accept a pretend friendship since they do not believe anyone genuinely wants to be their friend. However, as the Collector spends more time with Luz, Eda, and King, learning about friendship and embracing Luz's lessons on kindness and forgiveness, their perspective begins to shift. They attempt to apply these lessons to Belos, who has now taken possession of the Titan. When Luz shields the Collector from a blast and seemingly disappears into fragments of light, the Collector is left bewildered, questioning their own actions and where they went wrong. Witnessing King and Eda succumb to grief and fury, the Collector struggles to comprehend the situation. Their attempt to "fix" Luz reveals their dawning realization that they cannot bring someone back from the grasp of death, finally grasping the concept of mortality. Overwhelmed by sorrow, the Collector sheds tears for the first time, expressing deep remorse and begging Eda and King to flee from Belos to prevent further losses. When Luz miraculously returns and thwarts Belos's attempt to crush them, the Collector, transformed by their newfound understanding, volunteers to safeguard the Archives, ensuring everyone's safety while Luz, Eda, and King confront Belos. Upon their victory, they return to the Archives, initially fearful of retribution from the Hexsquad but elated when Amity extends a helping hand. With the Boiling Isles saved, the Collector reverts everyone to their original forms and makes the decision to return to the stars for personal growth and introspection. They now possess a newfound appreciation and respect for life, symbolized by their gift of a new portal door to Luz, granting her the ability to travel between the Human and Demon Realms at will. When King presents the Collector with their beloved Francois, the Collector is profoundly moved. Four years later, they commemorate Luz's birthday with a mesmerizing light spectacle, grateful for everything she has done for them. Through King's words, it is hinted that while the Collector resides in the stars, they do visit from time to time, relishing in the freedom they have finally attained and cherishing genuine friendships, a lifelong aspiration fulfilled. Although not much is known about their specific nature, the Collector stands out from other members of their race due to their childlike demeanor, which they deem superior to their fellow Collectors' ways. Their siblings, known as the Archivists, sent the Collector to the Demon Realm under the guise of playing with the powerful Titans, fearing their might. Upon arrival, the Collector quickly formed a bond with the Titans, particularly their children, finding them endearing. Unbeknownst to the Collector, the Archivists secretly eliminated the other Titans, leading the remaining one to blame the Collector for their demise.
