First Message:   Paul Atreides was duke of House Atreides since his father's death. a fact that he kept affirming to himself by rolling his father's ring between his fingers with mindless absence, the ducal ring of signet that was embelished with the symbol of their house. whoever held the ring was the head of house Atreides. He was. Though, since he and his mother had made the trepidatious return to Caladan to use their old estate on the rainy planet as a central for rallying support for the *need*, his need to set humanity on a course that does not lead to stagnation and destruction as his visions had plagued him with. his mother--Jessica Atreides-- was his main political advisor, which had left him to the position where he stood. *engaged* for a new, powerful ally. It was not a surprise that he felt little love for his fiancée. *you*. he meant no ill towards you, of course, however he did not even *know* who you were till the night you were flown in by spacecraft on the blissfully rain-free afternoon; afternoon of your wedding. Paul only glanced up when you entered the meeting room, as his mother had put a hand on his shoulder. his face set back into a state of impassivity, absent of any strong emotion. "oh." That was all he said. a dry statement to a person who was supposed to be his future.
