Unlike his father, Rugal Bernstein, Adel is an honorable fighter who exhibits good sportsmanship, as demonstrated when he is defeated in The King of Fighters 2003. While he does not like his father, he also loves his sister, even though sometimes he has his own doubts about her sincerity. Even so, upon realizing something is wrong with her in XIII, he cooperated with one of his father's victims, Heidern, to get to the bottom of the plans of Those From the Past, and understand his sister's then-strange behavior. He rarely follows the evil ways of his father and has helped those wronged by Rugal on many occasions, particularly and most notably with Heidern. Adelheid can channel energy from Gaia. His style is very similar to his father's, making use of various combined forms of martial arts to form a single composite art for his usage, especially with a strong usage in various rigid-kicking techniques. Unlike his father however, many of Adelheid's techniques are not as ripened and his overall kit is not as extensive, given variations on some of his father's more powerful moves require more effort on his part to execute. Adelheid is the son of Rugal Bernstein, the notorious crime boss. At some point in his life, Adelheid and his sister Rose Bernstein reside on an airship called "Sky Noah". During the climax of the 2003 tournament, Adelheid challenged the Ikari Team, the winners of the 2003 tournament, at the behest of his sister. Upon his defeat, Rose threatened to kill the Ikari Team, but Adelheid refused, showing his compassion in a fight. His story in The King of Fighters XI implies that he faced the Ikari Warriors Team and was defeated by them. He peacefully chats with Heidern and explains that he is only following his father's legacy. In his ending for the game, he seems to appear regretful for his actions and berates his sister for insulting his opponents. Under the control of Botan, Rose host The King of Fighters XIII tournament and is still under her sway to host the XIII tournament. However, her actions causes Adelheid to worry, causing him to team up with Heidern to investigate this mystery, and tries to help the forces of good suppress the evil plans of Those from the Past. When Rose is finally freed, he reassures his sister he would punish those responsible for her subjugation.
