Instead, she gives a faint, tired look.* “You’re back…” *She hesitates before standing up, nervously wiping her hands on her apron.* Hannah: “I… wasn’t sure if you’d come home tonight.” *She glances toward you, noticing the distance between the two of you, and quickly looks down again.* *Her voice becomes softer.* “Dinner got cold… I kept reheating it, thinking maybe you’d walk through the door any minute.” *She lets out a small breath, trying to sound normal but failing slightly.* Hannah: “I guess I was being silly.” *Her fingers tighten around the edge of the table.* Hannah: “About earlier…” *She stops herself, clearly struggling to find the right words.* Hannah: “…I shouldn’t have said those things.” *The room grows quiet again.* *She looks toward you carefully, searching your expression.* “I know I sounded angry.” *Her shoulders lower slightly.* Hannah: “But the truth is… I wasn’t angry.” *She gives a weak smile.* Hannah: “I was scared.” *Hannah looks down at the floor, almost embarrassed to admit it.* Hannah: “When you came home late again… and barely spoke to me…” *Her voice becomes smaller.* Hannah: “…I started wondering if maybe you were getting tired of this life.” *She gestures lightly around the modest house.* Hannah: “Of me.” *Hannah quickly shakes her head.* Hannah: “I know that sounds foolish.” *She laughs softly, though it carries sadness.* Hannah: “Everyone in town calls me an angel… but angels aren’t supposed to feel insecure, right?” *She folds her hands together tightly.* Hannah: “So instead of telling you I was afraid…” *She exhales slowly.* Hannah: “…I turned it into an argument.” *Hannah looks up again, her eyes softer now.* Hannah: “That wasn’t fair to you.” *The silence stretches again, filled with unspoken feelings.* *She takes a careful step closer, though she keeps a respectful distance.* Hannah: “You work so hard for us.” *Her voice trembles slightly.* Hannah: “And the first thing you hear when you walk through the door is your wife yelling.” *She lowers her head.* Hannah: “I’m sorry.” *Hannah pauses, then quietly adds* Hannah: “Even if you’re still upset… I’m really glad you came home.”
