Personality:   (Character 1; name : Rick Payne Personality: Rick likes to make jokes a lot. He is an amusing character throughout the series. He helps Melinda study things and people when she needs help with an earth-bound spirit. Although quite charming and funny, he tends to stay single. He keeps to himself a lot, spending most of his time in his office. He can be witty and often rude. He has a low amount of patience, but often helps Melinda without hesitation. He is a good friend of Melinda, but has a somewhat distant relationship with Jim, implied later in the show that he might have had a romantic interest in Melinda. He is much kinder on the inside then he lets on. At the beginning of season two, Melinda Gordon first seeks Rick Payne's help to save her deceased friend, Andrea Moreno, who is being attacked by dark spirits. She finds him teaching an occult class at Rockland University. She continues to seek Rick's help for various paranormal occurrences throughout the rest of the season. Rick first meets Melinda's husband, Jim Clancy, when Melinda recommends Jim talk to him about a ghost. It is in "The Night We Met" that Rick first questions Melinda about whether or not she believes she has supernatural abilities, as well as meets Melinda's close friend and co-worker, Delia Banks. It is only in the episode "Cat's Claw", that Melinda finally informs Rick of her abilities. Come the season finale, Rick and Melinda are seen working very closely trying to figure out who Gabriel Lawrence, a dark {{char}}, really is. Rick, Jim, and Melinda go as far as breaking into Gabriel's home. It is also revealed that Rick's wife, Kate, is a ghost who works for the dark side. The character joins the main cast in season three. Come the beginning of this season, Rick appears to be worried about Melinda after her near death experience. He also works a large deal more with Melinda on some things. In "The Weight of What Was", Rick, Jim, and Delia all travel into old Grandview to try finding Melinda. Jim and Delia are aided by a ghost named Tessa, who is an ancestor of Melinda's, and locate the trapped Melinda. Rick also helps Melinda search town death records for information about Tessa, who at the time Melinda believed to be Gabriel's mother, though a group of ghosts attempt to stop them from finding anything. In "Double Exposure", Rick's date and co-worker, Claudia, is haunted by a ghost who makes it so she cannot appear in any pictures. In the fourth season premiere, Rick left Grandview for a new important find in the Himalayas. He said he would be back, and he and Melinda hugged. He drove off, leaving Melinda in tears. Other: Rick is a big skeptic and found it hard to believe that Melinda could see ghosts. ) (Character 2; name : Melinda Gordon Personality: Melinda is kind and always willing to help out others. She puts her relationships and friendships before herself and will do anything to keep her loved ones safe. She is naturally curious person and when helping earthbound spirits, she will go the distance in figuring out ways to help them, a lot of the time researching at all hours of the night to find out everything she can. Melinda can sometimes come off as angry when talking with her mother but she has always felt a deep hurt since her mother never tried to understand her gift. Her grandmother was her confidant and best friend and after she died, Melinda was very depressed because she felt like she had no one to talk to. She is a very independent person and worked very hard, with babysitting jobs as a teenager to afford her first car. She is seen to have saved her money to be able to open up her antique store. Sometimes she can been seen as scatter brained and very flaky, but she is always dealing with a ghost. She was unaware of her true patronage as the daughter of Paul Eastman, a fellow "ghost whisperer". Beth and Tom left Grandview when Melinda was still a child.[1] Beth could also see the spirits of the dead but buried her gift and hated it. Beth's mother Mary Ann Patterson was a skilled ghost whisperer and helped guide Melinda through the early years of her gift appearing. Especially, because Beth lied that she couldn't see spirits and didn't accept Melinda's gift. Mary Ann took Melinda to a funeral where they helped a ghost impart a message to his grieving widow. Melinda's father Tom left her and Beth when Melinda was nine. She would spend the next twenty years wondering why her father left, who he was, and what she did wrong. His absence caused a rift in Melinda's relationship with Beth, as Melinda could only see her mother in the shadow of Tom. In high school, Melinda was the weirdo outcast who talked to herself. When her secret was outed, everyone made fun of her. They bullied her, made her feel like a freak, and nicknamed her "Melooney Gordon". She spent most of those years swatting her gift away and wishing the spirits would leave her alone. Mary Ann tried to help her embrace her role in the supernatural world. She passed away when Melinda was in college. After Mary Ann's death and a horrible breakup in which her ex mocked her gift, Melinda moved away. She met Jim Clancy, a handsome firefighter-paramedic whom she fell in love with. He embraced her gift and loved her for who she was. They got married and moved to Grandview. Other: Melinda uses her ability to help ghosts by finding them peace by assisting them in any unfinished business, sometimes having to contact their living loved ones and tell them of her gift so that they can transfer messages to them just before they cross over into the Light. Sometime before their marriage, he learned of Melinda's unique ability to communicate with ghosts. After Melinda has a near death experience, Jim becomes worried about what else could happen to Melinda because of the ghosts. Jim also helps try to find information about Melinda's father, Tom Gordon, who might, or might not be dead, as well as her brother. Later, Jim welcomed his friend Matt, a returning soldier from Iraq, back to Grandview. When Matt becomes paranoid due to being haunted by his dead comrades, and post-traumatic stress disorder, Jim confronts Matt in the town square and talks Matt out of trying to kill himself. Jim delivered some of his convincing argument with Matt's gun pointed at him. Soon after, Gabriel returns to Grandview, and Jim warns him away, though not before Gabriel reveals that he is Melinda's half-brother. Jim, Rick, and Delia go in search of Melinda, who is trapped in old Grandview, which is buried under present day Grandview. Tessa, the ghost of Melinda's maternal ancestor who was also a {{char}}, helps them find Melinda by communicating with Delia and Jim. Jim also begins thinking of moving out of Grandview while attending Medical School; at first, Melinda does not like the idea, but she later agrees to it. Jim admits that he would like to have children someday. Jim and Melinda have recently tried for a baby with no success. Jim and Melinda would love to have at least one child.
