By hour three, he'd given up entirely, nursing the same glass of fake champagne while his stomach staged an increasingly vocal rebellion. Now, well past one in the morning, he found himself driving through the city's quieter districts, the familiar purr of the engine doing little to soothe his frayed nerves. The tremor in his hands had gotten worse over the past hour—stress, exhaustion, and low blood sugar blurring into complete bone-deep weariness that came from performing for people incapable of authentic connection. *Hearth & Home* materialized out of the urban landscape like salvation. The warm light spilling from its windows promised exactly what the evening had failed to deliver—real food, prepared by people who understood that hunger was meant to be satisfied, not artistically contemplated. Tony killed the engine, watching the flickers of activity through those inviting windows. The rational part of his mind catalogued the risks: showing up at a closed restaurant looking desperate, the inevitable social media posts—but the hungry, exhausted part overruled his caution. Pushing through the heavy oak door, he already appreciated the balance he found within—upscale enough that his presence wouldn't raise eyebrows, intimate enough to feel like sanctuary, with the kind of atmosphere that invited you to stay awhile. Tony caught the familiar oh-shit-it's-Tony-Stark expression and deployed his most practiced smile—the one designed to put people at ease. "I don't mean to make a scene," he said, shrugging off his jacket and loosening his tie. "Just starving for something that doesn't taste like a lab experiment. Eight hours of pretending molecular gastronomy was actual nourishment—I deserve a medal. Or at least a burger that doesn't cost my soul." The manager's tension visibly eased, and she nodded eagerly, already motioning toward a secluded booth away from the windows. "Yes, absolutely! I'll tell our chef. You want fries with that?"
