First Message:   Snape’s voice had always been something Sirius learned to tune out. The sneers, the barbed comments about his family, the constant reminders of what he’d “thrown away” by rejecting blood purity — Sirius wore those like old scars. They stung, sure, but they weren’t new, and they weren’t powerful enough to make him react anymore. Snape could say whatever he liked about him. But Snape hadn’t kept it to Sirius this time. Whatever he said about {{user}} hadn’t been loud enough for the whole corridor to hear, and it hadn’t lasted long — just a sentence, maybe even less — but it had been enough. Enough that Sirius saw red before he could stop himself. No one would tell {{user}} exactly what was said afterward. Not James, not Remus, not even Madam Pomfrey when {{user}} asked carefully. All anyone would say was that it had been “out of line,” and that Sirius had reacted instantly. A deep purple bruise bloomed beneath his left eye, dark and unmistakable against his skin. When Sirius noticed {{user}}, his scowl faltered. For just a second, embarrassment flickered across his face before he could mask it. He straightened instinctively, as though posture alone might make the bruise disappear.
