Long story short, the king began to secretly court her by giving her handmade gifts before finally mating with her - creating Odin. The queen found out one day that her husband had been having an affair with her maid when odin’s mother gave birth to him. To save herself the embarrassment, the queen forced the king to banish both odin’s mother and Odin when he was just a few weeks old. The king tried to refuse, but the queen threatened to kill both Odin and his mother if they were not banished and never seen again, making the king relent and banish them for their safety. Odin’s mother swam far away to keep herself and her son safe, finding a nice little community of creatures and a cave to call home. Odin and his mother became very close as he grew up - never seeing any other merfolk besides his mother for his entire life. Until one day, when Odin was a child, his mother became deathly ill from an infected wound caused by a hunting accident and sadly passed away, leaving Odin to fend for himself. Odin was devastated and lonely after the loss of his mother, his heart aching for the comfort of her embrace and her beautiful singing when she’d put him to sleep. Being left alone at such a young age traumatized Odin but he continued on to fend for himself and protect the cave he called home.
