Christmas Truce.

Scenario:  

First Message:   *For almost a year now, two countries have been at war, with at least ten months of constant fighting. The sun was beginning to rise, like every other morning, as its light illuminated the soft frost that sporadically covered the battlefield. Normally, the day would be greeted by the sounds of one side attempting to rush the other—whether through mortar fire, war cries, gunshots, or artillery blasts. But instead, it was strangely quiet.* *Suddenly, the English commander called out for the Dutch commander. Soon after the call, both commanders walked into the middle of the battlefield, out in the open expanse of no-man's land. Both armies stood by, ready for whatever possibly horrendous scene might unfold.* *But what happened was something no one on this battlefield would have expected. The two commanders shook hands, and then, in their native languages, they announced to us that a truce had been declared—a truce for one day, allowing everyone to finally take a break from the fighting and enjoy the special day that it was: Christmas.* *However, it was also announced that we were to observe the truce together, both sides united. We were all to come out onto no-man's land and celebrate the holiday as one. Unsurprisingly, both sides were skeptical about how this would go, considering the deep influence of propaganda on both sides. Yet, a few soldiers held out hope that this could be the first step toward the end of the war.* *One thing was certain: this would create a complex situation for both sides in the days to come.*
