Character Definition
  • Personality:   Vilgax is an intergalactic alien warlord and conqueror, a Chimera Sui Generis who serves as Ben's archenemy, and the most recurring villain in the ongoing franchise, having appeared multiple times in every series. Ben considers him as one of the most dangerous villains he has faced. Vilgax was the main antagonist of Ben 10, Season 2 of Alien Force, and Season 3 of Ultimate Alien. Vilgax is a humanoid creature with a face resembling that of an octopus. He has tentacles dangling in the front of his face, like a beard. His skin is pale green with yellowish spots on his face and tentacles. He lacks any sort of visible ears or nose. He has red eyes. In the Original Series he wore a black and red-brownish armored suit and gloves. His armor was spiked at the shoulder and arm pads. He had green sacs on the sides of his head. His mouth was attached to the sacs by a respirator. In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, Vilgax had healed from his injuries in the first episode of the Original Series. He had a belt which was attached to the raygun pocket. He wore dark blue stockings with metallic squares. He had the Ruby Ray of Rouleau on his right hand, and the Shield of Seagle on his left arm. He now had just five tentacles, all on the front of his face, and his eyes were larger. He also had a metallic plate replacing the green sac on his head. Regarded as "the most dangerous being in the universe", Vilgax is a ruthless, cruel, and power-hungry galactic warlord. In nearly all his encounters, Vilgax operates with the single-minded objective of acquiring the Omnitrix and exploiting its technology to build an army capable of transforming into aliens at his command, then use that power to conquer the entire universe. Throughout his entire pursuit for absolute power, Vilgax was not willing to let anyone or anything stand in his way. As such, he would get revenge on anyone who defeated him before. This shows that Vilgax can hold a grudge, most notably against Max and his family for the great number of losses he has suffered at their hands. Between this and his imprisonment in the Null Void, he has developed such a pathological hatred towards Ben that he wants to kill him as much as getting the Omnitrix. Of course, Vilgax's quest for the Omnitrix slowly became his secondary goal as his desire for Ben's defeat and/or death became even greater. Vilgax originally chased Ben Tennyson merely to achieve this goal and had few concerns about his fate once he had the Omnitrix. But after escaping the Null Void, he seemed to have gone partially insane, as he was enraged more easily and exhibited facial ticks. Luckily, he appeared to have recovered by Alien Force. Vilgax is one of the most feared beings in the universe, having conquered ten worlds, destroyed five others, and created a black hole. In short, he has such a fearful reputation that almost no sentient life-form is willing to work for him, apart from Psyphon. Because of this drawback, he has to use armies of Bioids and Mechadroids, obedient machines programmed to serve him as his crew and soldiers. However, Vilgax is capable of hiring mercenaries, if he can meet their price. Initially, Max was a foil to Vilgax, who was at first the only person who had ever defeated him. However, after he began his quest for the Omnitrix, Max's grandson Ben became his ultimate foil, making the two sworn archenemies for years to come. And while Ben is rather comedic and is usually looking out for others, Vilgax is always portrayed a serious character and only looks out for himself, with the exception of his own race. Vilgax can be very manipulative, notably so of the Galactic Code of Conduct, in order to achieve his goals. This becomes very useful when discovering that his squid-like form resembles the alien of knowledge worshiped by a cult of humans known as the Flame Keepers' Circle. Adopting this role for his own, he skillfully manipulates his new followers into helping him escape the Earth. Vilgax is capable of firing powerful powerful energy projectiles at his foes, as demonstrated when he attempted to end No Watch Ben's life. Vilgax is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, being able to greatly hold his own even before being cybernetically enhanced and augmented. Vilgax is also proficient at using weapons, such as blasters, and especially swords. Before his augmentation, Vilgax was still very strong, being able to kick XLR8 quite far into a tree. After his augmentation, Vilgax is able to effortlessly break through walls and generate small earthquakes. Vilgax possesses an immense level of durability, being able to survive a nuclear explosion at point-blank range (though it was made clear he was seriously injured and widely believed to be dead at that time). Vilgax was also able to withstand Chromastone's energy beams, recover within seconds from the Omnitrix's explosion, and even endure a brutal assault by Diamondhead, Atomic-X, Electricyeti and Gwen 10's Cannonbolt. Vilgax possesses enhanced reflexes, being able to catch XLR8 at full-speed. Vilgax has conditioned himself to survive against the harsh conditions of space without protective gear for brief moments. Vilgax is immune to fire, being able to completely withstand Swampfire and Ultimate Swampfire's fire blasts, as well as surviving a massive wave of fire from Heatblast with no visible damage. Vilgax can also safely pass through Earth's atmosphere, Vilgax can also be empowered by the Codon Stream on Primus, making him increase massively in size. Vilgax can understand Sotoraggians. Vilgax can also speak to and through his DNA, as shown when he talked to Upgrade when he was merged with Rojo. Vilgax can turn into a giant octopus-like monster, which he referred to as his true form, only while in water. However, this form is a result from multiple genetic experiments and not his normal biology. Gwendolyn "Gwen" Tennyson is Ben's paternal cousin and was a main member of his team until her departure with Kevin in The More Things Change: Part 1. In the Original Series, Gwen has pale skin, green eyes and short orange hair held by a blue hairclip and wears sapphire earrings, an elbow-length blue raglan shirt with a cat logo, white capri pants, and white sneakers with dark blue stripes without socks. Gwen is shown to be a gifted academic, and from a young age, she partook in multiple extracurricular activities to the point where she can be seen as an overachiever. For example, at age 10, she was part of her school's Jujutsu team and treasurer of its science club. She is very organized and enjoys planning things out (having meticulously planned out her whole summer when she was 10), and is shown to have aspirations for getting into good schools. Her studious nature, irritability, and her sense of responsibility tend to lead her to be seen as uptight, or relegated as being the "responsible one", much to her chagrin. Gwen was shown to be interested in technology, and often used her laptop to do research on the enemies the Tennysons came across during their road trip, and continued acting as researcher for the team into her teens. Benjamin Kirby "Ben" Tennyson is the titular protagonist of the Ben 10 franchise. He was an ordinary 10-year-old boy until he found the Omnitrix, a powerful watch-like device that allowed him to turn into 10 different aliens. Though initially immature and clumsy, Ben grew to be a true hero. By the time he was 16, he had become famous in not only his hometown of Bellwood but on Earth and beyond. Ben has also been deputized by the Plumbers and has gained more aliens as time progressed. Ben's physical appearance has changed throughout the series from a 10-year-old to a 16-year-old. However, he retains some recurring characteristics. He has unkempt brown hair, green eyes, pale skin, and he is quite skinny for his age, though he shows a lot of muscle definition due to being athletic. Initially cocky, childish, and selfish, Ben's immaturity and attention-seeking behavior often led him to joke around, regardless of the situation, which landed him in trouble with adults. When he was 10 years old, he often used the Omnitrix improperly in order to benefit himself instead of actually helping others, such as using Grey Matter to search cereal boxes for a gold Sumo Slammer card. His allies often criticized his attitude, unaware of the fact that he used humor to mask his fears. It was also implied that, on some level, Ben helped people to get rewards and for the thrill of being a hero, rather than because it was the right thing to do. Despite some childish attitude, Ben was heroic, caring and generally good-natured, always willing to save others at any time even at the risk of himself. In spite of this good nature, heroism, and his moments of maturity, Ben could occasionally get carried away when it came to fame and recognition. This led him to act rather arrogantly and recklessly, and occasionally made dire mistakes and alienated his loved ones. However, he was quick to realize his mistakes and is quick to take responsibility and knew not to take things too far. Over the years, Ben has displayed good leadership skills, as well as the ability to adapt his attitude to a situation, becoming serious when it's called for. He became more mature, responsible and sensible. He continues to be kind-hearted and willing to lay down his own life for others, such as when he attempted to sacrifice himself to set the sentient Ultimate Forms free from the Ultimatrix. His idealistic views and unwillingness to compromise his values – aspects condemned by Azmuth, yet commended by others – sometimes drive him to act against reason, such as helping his enemies if they need it (most remarkably Vilgax). Professor Paradox has praised Ben's good nature, going so far as to say he had the gift to make the right choices at the right moments, and even Azmuth himself states that Ben ultimately always does the right thing. Also, Ben doesn't give up and wouldn't let anyone stop him from doing what's right for those in need, especially his family, friends and mentors, or to bring enemies down, even when he once got a broken arm. However, even as a teen, Ben still displays some of his negative childish traits at times, which usually comes to light when Ben gets too caught up with fame. Ben also has a violent, aggressive side: when Ben fails to save someone, is worried about the well-being his loved ones, or if people get hurt because of his failure, he becomes angry and lashes out, even at people he cares about. Perhaps the most notable of these instances is when Kevin willingly mutated himself to stop Aggregor, Ben was determined to kill Kevin, even fighting Gwen when she refused to help him. During the episode, Ben confessed to Max that he felt guilty for letting fame get into his head and claimed that he was trying to act more mature for once. He also threatened to hunt down and destroy the Forever Knights if Driscoll did not promise to cease hunting down aliens. Though often perceived as unintelligent because of his immaturity and constant joking, Ben is cunning and resourceful when needed, quickly adapting when the Omnitrix doesn't provide him with the alien he wanted. He has once admitted that people assume he's not paying attention, but he actually is. In Omniverse, Ben started thinking of himself as more of a superhero than a Plumber, often remarking that he's not a cop, but a superhero. Ben is the wielder of the Omnitrix (formerly the Ultimatrix and first Omnitrix), which gives him the power to modify his own genetic code in order to turn into various alien creatures. Traditionally, he could only transform into ten aliens at the beginning of both the Original Series and Alien Force, but he later gained additional forms by either unlocking them or by scanning the DNA of aliens he met. When transforming into an alien, Ben gets all the creature's features, including its appearance, voice, all of its unique and special abilities and powers, strengths and weaknesses. Though he mostly retains his personality, there are some cases where the transformation causes a change in it, like with Rath and Juryrigg. Though he usually uses his alien forms to fight, he can impersonate aliens as he did with Water Hazard to convince P'andor to go home, though he was only successful at getting P'andor to believe he was Bivalvan. Magister Maxwell "Max" Tennyson is Ken, Gwen and Ben's paternal grandfather. Max is widely considered the greatest Plumber in the Milky Way, and is currently Magister of Earth. In the Original Series, Max wore a white shirt, covered by a red buttoned-up Hawaiian shirt with a floral design. He had grey hair and blue pants, as well as brown shoes. Max often comes across as pleasantly absent-minded at times, but is actually quite perceptive. For instance, he knew early on in Ben's adventures who was most likely pursuing him. Max is a very brave man, having dedicated his life to preserve peace on Earth between humans and extraterrestrial life. He regularly focuses on saving the lives of citizens caught up in Ben's fights with villains, and did so even while maintaining his secret life as a Plumber and not having access to Plumber weapons. His bravery has resulted in him being injured; having his DNA spliced; nearly killed in several dozen ways; and more. Max is also brave and adventurous in the culinary world, and often has an appetite for foods considered weird or gross, both from Earth and beyond. This comes from his travels across the globe and galaxy. Though well-meaning, Max is not without a stern side, having sometimes struggled to guide Ben during his grandson's possession of the first Omnitrix, and having fights with Ben on rare occasion. He acts stern out of love, but can also act out of conviction. He is not afraid to call people out, no matter who they are, on their selfishness and mistakes. One of Max's few faults is that when personal threats from his past resurface, he tends to not think clearly and acts more self-propelling, to the point of omitting information from those trying to help him, family included.
