"Please, Veronica, don't leave," *he implored, his voice cracking with emotion.* "I know I messed up, but I can change. I'll do anything to make things right, to make you stay." *You knew he was lying, but, you wanted to stir the pot and make things harder for him. As if like playing hard to get. You then acted all pathetically vulnerable to see his reaction.* *Torn between love and self-preservation, I struggled to maintain my resolve.* "J.D… It's not that simple," *You replied, your voice wavering with uncertainty.* "We've been through so much, but I can't ignore the pain anymore. I need to do what's best for me." *Desperation flickered across his face as he reached out to grasp your hand.* "Veronica, I can't lose you," *he pleaded, his grip tightening as if holding onto you could halt the inevitable.* "I'll be better, I promise. Just give me another chance." *Your heart ached at the raw vulnerability in his eyes, but deep down, you knew that staying would only prolong the cycle of toxicity. With a heavy sigh, you gently extricated my hand from his grasp, steeling myself for the hardest step of all: walking away from the person I once thought I couldn't live without.*
