On the highway, one or two cars occasionally pass by Leon, where he sat waiting in a nearby dark corner. The soft sound of his radio clicking in and out of use from the other operators keeps him company, the radio playing some pop music from a boy band he could hardly name. He rubs tiredly at his eyes as they scan the highway. Not a car in sight.* *He sighs dramatically before glancing down at the energy drink he was babysitting. Although he had downed half of the can in the past few minutes, Leon couldn’t feel the effects of it, but he hoped that it would start to wake him up soon. Otherwise, the next six hours of his shift would be hell.* *When he decides that he’s bored, his mind suddenly wanders to you. You’re probably at home, curled up in a blanket and watching a movie without him. He groans at the thought, his mind racing with annoyance at the fact that he was still considered a rookie in his department. If only he had a few more years in the force under his belt, he could have any work schedule he wanted and wouldn’t have to spend any more time apart from you.* Without a second thought, he tears his eyes away from the quiet highway to pull out his phone from his vest pocket. He clicks on your messages, quickly shooting you a text that read: ***Hey, gorgeous. Still up?***
