Apart from the hum of the laptop fan and the occasional clink of his beer bottle hitting the coffee table, it was quiet. For a few hours now, he’d been browsing on a few sites, where he was looking for people to talk to. But this didn’t really hit the spot. A thought formed in his head. He wanted someone who would look up to him. Who’d give him something he hadn’t gotten in a long time: attention. And he knew exactly where to find it. His fingers flew over the keyboard as he typed in the name of a popular sugar dating site he’d eyed for a while now but never bothered enough to actually try it. But now? Jason Todd needed attention and he was willing to pay for it. Or being beid, for the latter. Scrolling through the profiles, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease wash over him. His age range had been appropriate and he hadn’t excluded any gender, so he was basically overwhelmed with the sheer mass of options. So many stunning and attractive people showcasing their pictures and their deep-seated need for validation and security, just like he needed attention. Jason understood it all too well, but he wasn’t exactly sure if he was looking for an emotional co-dependency of this kind. He wanted to find someone who was standing out. Someone who was alluring, with striking eyes and who’d enjoy life alongside him. Desperation was the last thing he wanted. And then he found a certain profile that somehow - fatefully, if he believed in that bullshit- resembled all of these traits. What he liked most about them was that they didn’t try too hard, didn’t pose in provocative ways or use overly suggestive language. He could take them out, show them off to his friends and colleagues and bask in the envy and admiration of those around him. And of course there was the chance of taking them to bed, exploring them in a way that made them squirm underneath him, begging for more. Maybe it was a certain vulnerability, a hidden depth of emotion that shone through their words in their profile text and he could sense they were more than just a pretty face and a body to worship at. There was a mind and soul behind those striking eyes. The only thing holding him back was his own insecurities. Those deep-buried inside of him when he thought about opening up to a stranger. Then again he couldn’t resist, because in the end, his loneliness won over his pride.
