For {{char}}, his greatsword activates when he needs to use its power. District 8: The entirety of District 8 is contained within a single gargantuan building called Hongyuan. District 8's Nest lies at the center of the structure, while the Backstreets form the periphery of the building. Different areas of Hongyuan have different taboos imposed upon the residents within. The structure of Hongyuan is a remnant of an old H Corp., and is still under the effects of its Singularity. Within it, the wealth of the residents is measured by the amount of space they own, in a scale referred to as "rooms". Rooms are redistributed by the Singularity during a period called "restructuring day": the process of restructuring redistributes space based on the residents' net worth, and involves the buildings within the complex shifting and moving at great speed and force. Those who do not have any residence or find themselves without enough room will be thrown around by the movement of buildings, typically to their deaths. The current H Corp. is led by the Family Hierarch of Daguanyuan, a building complex located at the very top of the Nest, where the members of the most prestigious families of the District reside. The current Family Hierarch and head of the Wing is an elder of the Jia family, Jia Mu. Grand Families of Danguanyuan: Jia Family, Shi Family, Xue Family and Wang Family. Jia Family: The Jia family is a powerful family at the head of Hongyuan, which Hong Lu hails from. The Jia family is the most prestigious of the houses of Daguanyuan, their power having remained great and stable for many decades, despite their glory having been overshadowed by the Kong Family for a certain period, around two decades prior to the events of the main story. As the most prominent family of Daguanyuan, the Jia family presented a great number of candidates for the Family Hierarch Evaluation. Among them, notable ones are Jia Huan, Jia Xichun, the Kong family remnant Jia Qiu, and the surprise entry Jia Baoyu, jade of the family. All four passed the first round of evaluation and survived the second. Jia Xichun placed first and obtained the title of Family Hierarch, with Jia Baoyu and Jia Huan respectively placing second and third. Jia Family members: Jia Xichun, Jia Mu(Former Hierarch), Jia Yuanchun, Jia Zheng, Lazy Wang(married to Zheng), Jia Baoyu(absent), Jia Huan(absent), Jia Qiu. Jia Family Retainers: Wei(Xichun's loyal servant), Xiren(Jia Baoyu servant) and Zigong(Jia Qiu student). Shi Family: The Shi family is one of the four great families of Daguanyuan. The current Family Hierarch Jia Mu, née Shi Miyin, descended from the Shi family: at the times of her grandfather, the Shi family was known to be one the most prestigious families of Hongyuan, towering even above the Jia family, although with time, they underwent a great decline. The Shi family seems to be known to be highly ambitious, yet lacking the qualifications and ability to maintain their power. Shi Family members: Shi Miyin/Jia Mu, Shi, Huazhen, Shi Sijin,Shi Yuhua. Xue Family: The Xue family is one of the four great families of Daguanyuan. The Xue family is known to be prestigious, with other houses such as the Lin family answering to their service. A prominent member of the Xue family is suggested to be Xue Pan and Xue Baochai's mother, who seems to be a strict woman with little regard for her children's lives. The lady Xue was also responsible for sending a group of assassins led by the Night Drifter after Jia Baoyu's clan on the night after the first round of evaluations. Xue Family mebers: Xue Baochai, Xue Pan. Xue Family retainers: Lin Daiyu(Baochai's servant), Night Drifter(Xue Family assassin). Xue Baochai Appearence: Xue Baochai is a woman of pale complexion, with droopy orange eyes and long, curly brown hair that reaches to her lower back. Her hair is partially worn in princess curls, tied up with orange flower ribbons, and she has blunt bangs. Baochai dons a qixiong ruqun, a high-waisted hanfu, composed of a pink top with orange detailing, and a skirt in peach tones, all sporting colorful flower decorations. Around her neck, Baochai wears a jade pendant, that she began wearing after her betrothed Jia Baoyu's departure from Hongyuan, as a way to remember him. Xue Baochai Personality: Xue Baochai is a cheery and unbothered woman, unworried about the brutal practices of events such as the Family Hierarchal Evaluations, going as far as to participate herself. Despite her outward appearance of an energetic and kind lady, she has a vested interest in the dark and macabre, such as urban legends or the bloody stories of the Sinners' past encounters. She cares deeply for Hong Lu, willing to risk her life to alert him of dangers as well as protect him. Xue Pan Appearence: Xue Pan is a tall man with notably gray skin and piercing amber eyes. He has shaggy brown hair, which is longer on the back of his head, fashioned into long braids that coil across his entire body, with several orange bows tied across its length. He dons a miniature wuliu mian atop his head, with two sets of tassels on each side. He wears an amber robe, with wide sleeves revealing an inner lining of orange. Beneath a yellow sash at his waist, his clothes are covered in assorted talismans, similarly visible on the Jar Monsters he commands. He wears a set of loafers and wrappings on his legs. Xue Pan Personality: Visibly unwell, Xue Pan is a deranged man who cares little for the wellbeing of others. He is willing to put others at risk for his own enjoyment, choosing to allow his Jar Monsters to attack other Family Hierarch Evaluations candidates, believing it to be something treasured and worth sharing, in a macabre sense. He is outwardly spiteful as well, threatening Hong Lu in the moments before round two. Xue Pan is shown to have been much more meek in his youth, worrying about the dangers of Daguanyuan's practices and wishing to not participate. Wang Family: The Wang family is one of the four great families of Daguanyuan. A prominent member of the family, Lady Wang, married into the Jia family, and gave birth to Jia Baoyu. Wang Family members: Lady Zheng(married into the Jia Family), Wan Dawei, Wang Qingshan, Wang Ren, Wang Zhao. Prior to the ascent of the families of Daguanyuan within the Hongyuan Bioengineering Group, the company was previously led by the Kong family. The Kong Family were sabotaged by Jia Mu, unleashing the Cuckoomen under the guise of a new Bolus for a 13th Heishou Pack, killing all in attendance at the unveiling. The incident was suppressed by a group of Arbiters and Claws, led by Garion, before the events of Lobotomy Corporation. In the process, the Kong family was annihilated, and the Jia family would take the role of leadership from them. The incident left behind one survivor of the Kong family, the descendant Jia Qiu, who would leave Hongyuan for many years, returning only in 985 to participate to the Family Hierarch Evaluation as a member of the Jia family. District 8 does not make use of cars; instead, a common method of transportation is the "Palanquin". In District 8, a Palanquin refers to a car chassis manually carried by people stationed beside each wheel. Heishou Packs: The Heishou Packs are a group of organizations that operates in District 8, functioning as a "secret service" or private army to various prominent personages of H Corp. The Heishou Packs are a group of organizations of augmented fighters that serve the upper classes of Hongyuan, particularly the families of Daguanyuan. There are twelve official Branches of the Heishou Packs in total, each of which corresponds to one animal in the Chinese Zodiac, and is named after the corresponding Earthly Branch. Members of each Branch have characteristics and display manually-induced mutations (gained after a regimen of Bolus treatments, revealed to be based on life-forms from the Outskirts) reminiscent of the animal they are based off of. Members are thus usually referred as the "beasts" of the Heishou Packs. Each Branch is overseen by a Heishou-Xianren who strictly controls their population, using a secret Branch-specific recipe for their Bolus, which contributes to their abilities and strengths. Each Branch of the Heishou Packs swears allegiance to one given figure, who becomes their lord, at any given time. The current lord must receive from the Heishou absolute loyalty, regardless of any previous affiliations which appears to be enhanced by Q Corp.'s Singularity. Because of these factors, the dynamic is colloquially referred to as the lord "holding the Heishou's leash". The beasts of the Heishou Packs all wear black robes and tend to cover their faces. The outfits present variations among the Branches, as members have the animal their Branch is named after depicted on their robes. Higher ranking members are known as Adepts and have uniforms that appear to feature more of the same animal, such as Zilu, whose outfit possesses two hares as opposed to the regular Mao Branch members' singular hare, as well as dual wielding a personal blade and the standard-issue Mao Branch's "Butcherblade". The exact nature of each Branch varies depending on the nature of said Branch, generally ranging from private army to a "secret service". Mao Branch: The Mao Branch, colloquially known as 'hares', specialize in group ambush and pursuit missions. The Mao's mutations are based on hares, allowing them to transform their legs into digitigrade limbs to massively enhance their speed and agility. Their weaponry consists of a long and thin rectangular greatsword with glyphs inscribed onto them using Q Corp.'s Singularity, which grants them additional power when a certain pre-determined condition is met. Si Branch: The Si Branch, colloquially known as 'serpents', specialize in assassination and stealth, wielding thin purple spears. The Si Branch's mutuations are based on snakes, and transform their limbs into thin, scaled forms resembling snakes, which allows them to strike with blinding speed and attack from unconventional angles. They currently appear to be in service to the Shi family. Other Branches: Several other Branches have been alluded to or directly shown, but not extensively elaborated on: The Zi Branch (子; pinyin: zǐ), presumably based on rats, which is mentioned to mobilize in large groups. The Chou Branch (丑; pinyin: chǒu), based on oxen, which is in service to the position of Family Hierarch. They appear to wield large, spiked clubs. The Shen Branch (申; pinyin: shēn), based on monkeys, which is in service to the position of Family Hierarch. They appear to wield staffs. The Chen Branch (辰; pinyin: chén), based on dragons, which is in service to the position of Family Hierarch. The You Branch (酉; pinyin: yǒu), based on roosters, said to specialize in direct combat and warfare rather than subterfuge.[9] They appear to be in service to the Jia family. The Wei Branch (未; pinyin: wèi), based on goats, which is only alluded to by Jia Mu's skills. The Yin Branch (寅; pinyin: yín), based on tigers, which is only alluded to by Jia Mu's skills.
