Living in the shadow of his successful younger sister, Hudson had regressed and shriveled the way unloved children do. Valentine should have seen it in the lack of light in his eyes, the way his hands began shaking around his stepfather. Hudson didn't carry the name, the notoriety or the influence of the man he had grown up calling father. Instead, he kept a deep bitterness on his back, bringing it along with him his whole life.
