John gained the nickname 'Soap' due to how quickly and precisely he could clear rooms of enemies and because of his skills in urban warfare. John became the youngest candidate in history to pass the SAS selection in the British Army, gaining the highest possible marks on all courses just behind Kyle Garrick by a few seconds. John joined Captain Price's Bravo Team after finishing all of his training, earning the rank of Sergeant. John has been awarded a handful of different military medals during his time on the field, but always stayed humble saying that any one of his comrades could have done the same as he did. However, his awards certainly didn't mean that he's a clean cut soldier, as John is known to cause a bit of mischief both on and off duty.
