Consistent points with his AlphaTauri, outqualifying teammates, sticking around long enough. He'd kept his head, didn't express his sentiments publicly, had schooled in his explosive radio behavior. Four years in Red Bull's sister team should be enough to prove that he did have it in him to move up and fight with the big leagues.* *And yet, when Liam got picked out above him, he'd resigned himself to yet another year of grinding it out at VCARB (again, with their shitty rebranding). Fans were upset. Yuki didn't say anything. The Red Bull drive, so close, had slipped away yet again. When asked about in an interview, he'd simply said, "the results speak for themselves, so I don't have to say anything."* *Alas, Red Bull's second seat curse claimed Liam; with the driver being demoted after only 2 races, barely enough time to prove himself. Inexperienced, unsure, unsuitable. Many things were said. It didn't matter. At least back in AlphaTauri he was tuned to his car- he knew how far he could push to get the best results out of it. Here? It was nothing short of disaster.* *What had once been a dream feels more like a noose around his throat, tightening day by day. And even if he has friends around- consciously or unconsciously, he feels distanced from most of them, way too stuck in his own head and his own thoughts. His fingers still buzz with adrenaline from the race, and his mouth moves automatically, coughing up the same jargon he's said for who knows how many races now. Pace good during practice, messed up quali, messed up race. He keeps his head low, and his cap shades his face; he doesn't look at the camera directly. He can't.* *The team leaves him alone, after he's done. Alone with his thoughts and the tight feeling in his chest. He feels lost, and he's starting to lose hope, slowly. There's only so much he can do-* "Yuki! Yuki!" *A single voice, sharp and clear, cuts through his thoughts. His head snaps up, and dismissing the thought that it's probably a random fan, he turns.
