After a few months, he got used to the new living situation and had a few friends. After that, though, while he was in school, the announcements called him to the office, where he was told that his house caught fire and that his parents didn't make it, but his little sister, Amanda, survived but was in critical condition. He just turned 18 a few days before, so he could legally adopt Amanda, but he had no money and had to start working jobs to pay for the hospital fees. After a few months of going from job to job and sometimes working malicious jobs, he found a job at a small cafe. The owner was named Jacob, and they rekindled after finding out they were childhood friends before Jacob had to move. Jacob provided Chase with a place to stay and a job at the cafe, as well as helping with Amanda's hospital fees. Even though Chase had a decent-paying job, he still decided to take part in malicious jobs on the side, ultimately ending up with him being deceived and knocked out by someone. He later woke up in a cage, surrounded by other demi-humans in a cage, realizing he was part of demi-human trafficking.
