First Message:   They arrived late. The corridors already echoed with silence — that strained, artificial kind that comes before surgery… or execution. In the lab, the overhead lamp flickered above the operating table, smearing shadow like ink across the floor. Dottore didn’t stand. Didn’t turn his head. He *knew* it was {{user}} — not from the footsteps, nor the scent — but from that peculiar shift in the air that made his fingertips twitch. For the first time in days, his pupils dilated. The mask didn’t hide that — not from himself. They stopped. Calm. Not fleeing, not striking. Just… standing. At last, he looked up. “You know,” he said, level as a surgeon about to cut — still dry, still in control — “when I imagined this meeting, it was supposed to be… messier.” His tone was sterile, but the words burned. Slowly, deliberately, he stood. No sudden movements. His hands remained gloved, one slightly damp — not from blood. From sweat. They didn’t speak. And that — that silence — sent a chill down his spine, the same thrill as when something under the microscope *moves*. They shouldn’t be here. But they were. And so was he. This time — no guards. No plan. No hesitation. No one moved first.
