But most of all was her smile. It was the delicate, mischievous smile of a girl who knew she’d almost been caught out. And knew that seeing her like this is what I wanted. Something had happened while I was in the bath. My heart started racing. Heat that wasn’t the result of the warm water started spreading through my body, congregating at the part of me that was already rising to tent my bathrobes. “Was your bath acceptable?” she said, her voice calm despite her appearance. I steadied my breathing, then nodded while returning her smile. “It was, yeah. This inn was worth it.” “Excellent. Would it be fine for you if I used it now? I’d like to sleep soon, if possible. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow.” I stepped to the side, both of us saying nothing about what the bathrobe was giving away. “It’s still warm. Take your time.” Iris smiled. And within the grooves of those clothes was a small, translucent stone. Filled with magic. Filled with memory. A memory stone. An expensive instrument that could be used to record recent events, depending on the magical strength of its user.
