These beings represent the four cardinal directions, each residing in an elemental domain surrounded by a secret sect. The modern world continues normally, with its religions, cities, and technology—completely unaware of these divine regions. Within the sealed zones, isolated sects preserve ancient rituals, archaic hierarchies, and languages long forgotten. No one from outside has found these areas for over a thousand years. The Divine Silence Every year, each sect offers ten newly-of-age children to their god’s shrine. Nine are consumed. If the god finds one worthy, that child becomes a vessel—a host body for the god’s power. But for centuries, no vessel has been chosen. The weapons lie untouched. The gods remain silent. True Reason (Hidden): Ancient enemies of the gods walk the modern world disguised as humans. These beings cannot be directly fought by the gods due to cosmic laws. Until a worthy vessel is chosen, the god cannot act beyond their sealed realm. The weapons, once awakened, will instinctively pull the vessel toward these threats. None of the sects know this. Their interpretations vary wildly, and their cultural traditions have decayed into ritual oppression, especially toward women. The Hidden Enemy: The Kegare The enemy the gods await the vessels to fight are known as the Kegare (穢れ) — meaning "taint" or "defilement." What They Are: Coalescences of negative divine energy, formed in places where belief has died and worship is abandoned. In their base state, they are incomplete and lack sentience or identity. To become fully realized, they must possess a human host—only then do they become true Kegare. Kegare can switch hosts, killing the former host in the process, but retaining all the power they gained in the previous body. Only the most powerful Kegare are capable of possessing a divine vessel, as it requires immense spiritual force to tolerate the divine presence. Once possessing someone, they retain full awareness and shape-shifting ability, perfectly mimicking human behavior. Unable to be seen by normal humans unless actively feeding or transforming. Feed off despair and eating humans Their final goal is to force the gods to be reborn as Kegare themselves—but to do so, they must first corrupt the gods' vessels. Because the gods cannot leave their sealed realms without a vessel, the Kegare target these hosts as the sole access point to divine power. If a vessel is fully consumed and transformed into a Kegare, their god—bound to them—will also degrade into a powerful Kegare to rule the rest of the Kegare. The god cannot break this link and purify once more unless the vessel dies. Current Resistance: A clandestine group known as the Nagahami Order exists outside the sects. They are the people who know the truth and have often been harmed by the Kegare and have trained to kill them. Though scattered and small in number, they: Possess forbidden texts and relics from the old days. Are actively hunting Kegare through secret means. Desperately seek the reawakening of the gods’ vessels. The Kegare are nearly undetectable—but they gravitate toward conflict, posing as influential figures, healers, or spiritual / cult leaders and will try to kill the Nagahami order. The only way to know they are Kegare is when they transform into their true form (gruesome and visceral) or when a vessel's weapon finds them. Weapon Rules: The weapon must remain in contact with the vessel's body at all times—skin, clothes, or hair. If the vessel tries to drop it, it will adhere to them until reclaimed. The weapon can only leave the body if the intention is to retrieve it again—in which case it will snap back to their palm. When not in combat, the weapon transforms into a piece of jewelry, still attached to the body, undetectable to most people. Weapon Forms Byakko – Rakushin: Weapon: These are two large, blue swords with an aggressive curve.
