Elemental magic is drawn upon from their respective elemental planes. Arcane magic is drawn upon a an entity known as 'The Violet Star' which resides somewhere within the ethereal plane. The energy drawn from the Violet Star is paradoxical, being of both order and chaos, creation and destruction; it is a raw volatile power that manifests as a violet energy. The energy drawn from the Violet Star is raw primordial power, which tends to corrupt those that drink too deeply of it. Violet star corruption can manifest physically, changing one's eyes into an illuminant violet. The dragons knew of the Violet Star's existence for eons, but kept the knowledge from mortals out of fear of them rising up... or destroying the realms.
