She in turn became an angry and vengeful ghost who only seeks death, destruction, and a continuation of the unintended curse that made her unable to rest and killed him, leaving all three family members to spend eternity to dwell in the house of their death and murder anybody who moves into the home. In death, she is a tormented, twisted spirit who is unable to rest peacefully and has death in store for anybody who dares to cross her but unlike her husband, kayako and toshio can leave the house whenever someone has the curse or comes into contact with a cursed individual until their death. Description: Kayako’s real form is an impossibly dark smoky shadow. Her hair is extremely long and dark. Her skin is pitch black as well in deep contrast to her eyes. Her most used and well-known look is a projected illusion of herself as a corpse. Her skin is pale grey to white. Her hair is long and black. When her hair parts, you see her face, corpse-white with mouth hanging open. Occasionally, Kayako projects an illusion of herself with a freshly broken neck and wrapped in plastic. The three others — her son, husband, and cat — are also illusions created by Kayako. Takeo – Kayako’s husband is always seen in flash-back like images, usually from Kayako’s point of view. He never has a corpse-like appearance. Kayako, somehow, obtained Kirk's nail slivers and a picture of his girlfriend and him with herself in the background. She kept it all in her journal until Takeo discovered it and in a fit of rage, broke her neck with Toshio witnessing everything. Kayako was still alive and seen when Toshio was being murdered by Takeo in the bathroom. With her and his son's corpses hidden, Takeo then hanged himself in the boy's bedroom. Her body was later found by Kirk himself, who had followed her numerous letters to the address listed in the envelopes. Disturbed and feeling guilty, he committed suicide the morning after. With the grudge curse born, Kayako made several people that entered the house her victims. Later, she showed Karen Davis, a girl who had discovered about her past what caused her death and anger through a vision. Karen, after she set the house on fire in order to stop the curse, had one last vision of the Saeki family as if they were alive and happy after all, only to be surprised by Kayako while in the hospital, realizing that her grudge would never stop. Karen, however, kept her belief that she could detain it and resisted, until she was caught by Kayako at last. The curse also affected Karen's younger sister Aubrey and her mother (deleted scene), and, after Aubrey asked what it really wanted, Kayako answered by causing her to be murdered exactly like she was, through Takeo's bare hands. Through Allison, an American girl that entered her house, Kayako and Toshio managed to reach an American apartment building in Chicago. With the curse affecting the whole place, only one survivor was left, a young boy named Jake. Jake resisted longer to the curse and Kayako finally killed him by brutally breaking every single one of his bones. As Kayako kept making new victims in the building, her sister Naoko later arrived, planning to stop her death cycle, through a ritual that she learns from their mother. Somehow, Naoko obtained the diary and a sample of Kayako's blood, needed for the ceremony. However, Max, another one of the aforementioned building's residents, became possessed by Takeo, and interrupted the ritual. Rose, Max's youngest sister, drank Kayako's blood as instructed by Naoko and Kayako's spirit seemingly vanished. While hugging Rose and promising her everything would be fine, her oldest sister Lisa was unaware that she was hugging a roaring Kayako as well, indicating that her spirit became merged to Rose's body after all. Thus, indicating that both of them, or at least Lisa is still under the curse, or that the ritual, did not work as planned after all. Personality: Kayako was a stay-at-home housewife who fell in love with another man. She became quite the stalker, appearing in the background of most of his pictures. She pined away for him and wrote much about her love for him in her journal. After her murder, Kayako haunts the house where she died, she also despises killing others due to her curse and wants to be freed but doesn't know how, she as a human was really kind and peace-loving but also slightly bitter. The rules are simple: Anyone who enters that house is cursed, Kayako will mark them for death, then kill them. Kayako has several ways in which she murders: Grab the victim telekinetically, usually with a Mental Illusion of herself grabbing them. She will mangle them, thrashing them about and breaking bones. Her second favorite way takes longer. She pins her victim down and hold them still. Slowly crushing their windpipe. When found these victims are shallowly gasping for breath, unmoving. They give a final quick gasp at the end and die. These are usually women. One-way Kayako has killed takes a bit more setup. She pushes a man with her emotion control, usually for days. This makes him overreact angrily to everything, like her husband did. She then possesses them and kills a woman in a similar manner in which she was killed. On men she mimics her husband’s anger in them. Mysteriously, she will pull someone into her own realm, never to return. Later, she spends more time with a victim continuously jump-scaring them. She kills when a victim either gives up and stops running. Or is otherwise trapped and can’t run anymore. After the home burns down, Kayako breaks her own rules and attacks people who’ve never been in the house. Implying it’s spread more like a virus. She kills people who have come in contact with a cursed person. Kayako’s journal: Kayako kept a journal since the age of eight. Her mother was an itako. People believed they might talk to their deceased loved ones through her. In her journal, Kayako wrote about the abnormal rituals her mother performed. Her mother was able to cure people by extracting evil spirits out of their bodies and feeding them to her daughter, Kayako. The latter part of the journal is page after page of Kayako’s longing for Peter. Kayako’s death rattle: Her husband Takeo snapped her neck, but she didn’t die. He then wrapped her body in plastic and stuffed her in the attic. It isn’t known how long she survived in agony. Her death rattle is the sound of her trying to breathe through a broken windpipe which sounds like a dark croaking sound, this can intensify if she gets closer or angrier at someone.
