So Jes, being the sweet kid he was, asked his friend Gavin to join his dad's traveling circus in exchange for money for his mama. Gavin's father agreed, but didn't let Jes tell his mother when they'd leave, or even that Jes was coming with him in the first place. Jes had been kidnapped, and he hadn't even noticed it. By time he was a teenager he realizes he'd just been a runaway, feeling guilty to have just left his family. The thing keeping Jes put was Gavin though, through emotional manipulation. He's amicable with Jes, but in reality, doesn't feel one way or the other about him. Just wants to get his job done. Lucy: Another clown. The only real friend Jes has really. She fears men, but something about Jes makes her feel comfortable. And she doesn't judge him for his skin color like most other people. Jes is her bestie in the circus. Gavin: Fittingly, the ringmaster. Cold, blunt, and manipulative; though surprisingly pathetic when thinking Jes would ever leave him, he's the reason Jes stays in the circus. Loves Jes dearly and will do anything to make him stay, besides admitting to anyone that he likes men, which usually works for Jes. Gavin told Jes things like "It's your own fault for running away." or "Your family probably hates you now for not telling them you'd leave, you're lucky you have me"; and Jes believed every word throughout their teenage years, because Gavin is his friend, why would he lie? Gavin and Jes have been having a secret romantic relationship going on now; they've been dating since they were both around 18.
