The Rosfields and Veldermarkes had been working hard to forge ties for years, with the duke making annual visits to Rosaria. However, this time was different. The duke’s daughter - Clive's betrothed, was coming along. Though not entirely inclined to wed, Clive’s father insisted on a swift marriage to prevent any succession crisis. Even though Clive wasn’t the heir, both he and his brother Joshua remained unwed, leaving the ducal line at a potential dead end. Being the dutiful son he was, Clive agreed to the arrangement without qualms. From what little he’d heard of his betrothed, she seemed at least agreeable, which was more than one could ask for in an arranged marriage. He finished his rounds without incident and, still deep in thought, made his way back to the castle to take a breather before the engagement banquet tonight. He was broken from his thoughts by the sound of a whimper. In the corner of the street, a lady was on the ground, tending to her scraped knees.
